Representative George Santos: Indictment and Prosecution (Expelled from Congress on Dec 1, 2023)

That’s what it looks like to me, checking the phrase “tie vote” in here:

If one of the five Republicans members votes, in committee, to expel, then Santos is almost certain to be expelled by the full house.

Historically, crooked members, about to be expelled, almost always quit first. That’s why only two members have been expelled since the Civil War.

While there is serious evidence showing Santos to be a crooked liar, I don’t see jumping to the conclusion he is worse than those actually convicted.

The Wikipedia story of the last expulsion is mildly interesting:

I support the right of convicts to run for office. Santos, if convicted, is welcome to try.

With the same email address on both forms.

I’ll bet Santos’ next treasurer is John Barron. I hear he’s looking for work.

Deleted. I hadn’t seen the moderation not when I posted this.

Thank you.

Sometimes it’s hard to keep track of all your burner accounts. Would be funny (and entirely unsurprising) though if a Real Andrew Olsen turned up saying “SO THIS is why I got all those dings on my credit report, and where all those mailing list subscriptions came from! I was going nuts wondering!”

I can accept there’s an argument that punishment generally may not help. But I feel this is an exception.

People like Santos, or white collar criminals in general, have advantages a typical criminal doesn’t have. They don’t need to commit crimes. They do it because they see gains to be made and they feel that the risks are low due to their access to quality legal assistance. The worst they usually face are things like fines or probation.

If they faced a significant threat of going to prison, it would matter to them. These are not people who are used to dealing with hardship or adversity. They would assess the risks and rewards and conclude something like “I could make ten million dollars but I might end up in prison. So I guess I’ll play it safe and only make one million dollars by legal means.”

Who’s it gonna be?

He has until Friday to appeal so we will have to wait.

Mafia? George is saying he’d rather go to jail than say who his benefactors are.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t George Santos have a habit of saying lots of things that aren’t true?

David Dennison?
John Barron?

Can it even work that way? If it’s ordered to be unsealed, the information gets out. It’s not like George is the only one with access to the information. The Court certainly knows.

It can’t. But I think George’s argument is let’s just pretend I never got bailed out and I’ll go back and sit in jail until my court hearing.

Stupid argument, but it shows you how important it is to him to keep this secret.

So he is claiming that he will refund the bail money, thus making the point moot, and actually go to jail until trial? There is no way anyone with any faculties would take that seriously.

True. But the refund would go to HIM. Lol. Which makes it even more ridiculous!

Every little bit of grift helps…

I just assumed it was typical GQP weaseling rather than Devolder-typical lies. If he claims to the masses that he fought the release to protect his people, but that the unfair Dems/Libs/Communists wouldn’t let him, he wins as a culture warrior, which might once again enable the grift flow.

IE gets his cake (bail) and gets to eat it too!
