Republican ideas for handling Ukraine war

Maybe I missed it but among all the “Biden is a disaster with Ukraine” coming from the Pubs, have any of them come up with a better idea? Empty Greene seemed to be saying " 'merica first! And screw everyone else." but no sane alternatives. Seriously, are any Rs floating ideas?

I posted this in the sanctions thread but it’s worth repeating here. Koch is making a political statement as much as a financial decision.

They’re still working on a better replacement for Obamacare.

The once and future leader of the Repubs had this idea…

Yeah, it was a joke in a speech to to Repub donors, but still such a deeply, deeply stupid thing to even joke about.

Empty Greene’s plan is for Ukraine to surrender unconditionally and become part of Russia.

Or is that Putin’s plan? Same difference.

I think for other Republicans, the plan is to start thermonuclear war so they can blame it on Biden and win the next election.

‘Tom Tomorrow’ I would say nailed it quite well with his latest comic.

Republicans are all over the place. Some are hawks, some are surrender-doves.

The hawkish ones want what you’d expect, lots of arms shipments to Ukraine, maybe even some direct intervention.

Graham is pretty hard core on the MiG transfer. I don’t think that it’s really that huge a jump over all the Manpads and ATGMs that we’ve delivered.

That said, it would probably be better that we mostly leave this to Europe until the 11th hour. So far, that’s worked well for us in European wars.

From the NYT live blog regarding a recent poll on what people think about Biden’s handling of the Ukraine situation:

Republicans, reflecting a near-universal disdain for Mr. Biden among the party’s rank-and-file, were reluctant to support military action — yet also convinced the president was not “tough enough” to deter Mr. Putin. Only 12 percent of Republicans approved of Mr. Biden’s actions, the poll found.

Just your typical knee-jerk dipshit reaction, same as always. If asked, I’m sure not a one of these people could come up with a single thing that would be better than what’s already being done. They’re just there to criticize. Actual concrete plans and ideas are a foreign concept.

The party of “no”

Or in this case, the party of “no fucking clue”

If one good thing has come out of Trump’s America First rhetoric, it’s a distaste for military adventurism among Republicans (or at least a good-sized and vocal portion of Republicans). That, of course, doesn’t mean they have any good ideas for dealing with something like this, and it doesn’t keep the usual suspects from lambasting Biden’s response as weak. But you’re not seeing too many Republicans calling for boots on the ground.

That’s because they are so busy working on universal health care.

And maybe some are helping OJ find the real killer.

The phrase “Republican ideas” is an oxymoron. They have no ideas. They don’t give a fuck about helping Ukraine, standing up for democracy, or stopping Putin. All they care about is using this to hurt Biden and getting one of their own elected so they can continue cutting taxes for the rich, gutting the social safety net, and slashing environmental protections. Whatever Biden does is wrong, period end of discussion. Inflation is rampant worldwide, but inflation in the US is Biden’s fault. Gas prices go up- it’s Biden’s fault. Your favorite television show gets cancelled- yep it’s Biden’s fault.

Same in Canada. Our inflation is all Trudeau’s fault. As are gas prices, and TV show cancellations.

If your dog gets knocked up by the neighbour’s pooch: Trudeau’s fault.
