Sounds reasonable.
Building a wall seems pointless. Aggressively enforcing immigration law is not a bad idea. If we want more open borders than do it through the legislative process. Not thru encouraging law breaking.
With regards to Obamacare? There are some fundamental issues I have with the individual mandate but I guess it falls under the power to tax? Healthcare in the USA is bad for a country with the resources and untapped productivity we have. So, I’m not in a rush to take away policy that saves lives and improves lives without something to replace it. I’ve advocated expanding the safety net and implementing a basic income while removing minimum wage laws. So I am not opposed to wealth redistribution in a modern, highly productive society. I think we have issues on the demand side more than the supply side. But law needs to be enforced. We can’t tolerate de facto open borders and unnecessary free riders.
Man I got no idea. I know many Trump supporters. I think many of them, just as many on the left, have no coherent world view. Explaining why voters vote how they vote would be a book. Let’s just say that internal contradictions aren’t surprising in the political realm. And I think that comes from just basic human nature and brain wiring.
Again, there is no way to address your question that can’t be nitpicked endlessly without writing a novel. I will say this though, rhetoric matters as much if not more so than logic to the human mind. Why do you think there are 3 billion + or so religious folk on this planet when all evidence suggests we live in a world without ghosts and demons? Try answering that.
If communication with pure reason and logic would work we wouldn’t have 95% of the problems in the world we have today.
I don’t have a problem with much of the left, to be honest. I have a problem with those who exploit leftist ideology in order to seize government or institutional power though. I believe in constraints. I believe in checks and balances. I’m probably the most pro bill of rights person on this board. In large part because I believe in the importance of a strong foundation for constraining government.
The list is a troll by the definition of troll held by the list creators.
The way you use troll gives it no real meaning.
I did nothing of the sort. And yes, if people act like jackasses to me in the pit when I’m being reasonable outside the pit then I’m entitled to respond to them, basically as I wish in the pit as well. Sorry if that offends you, but the pit isn’t your safe place.
Not that it’s any of your business nor are you entitled to know who i did or did not vote for but I’ve said many times on these very forums that I could not vote for Trump for many of my own reasons so I did not.
How exactly is annoying anyone supposed to win them to your side? You miss obvious points and I won’t spell them out again.
So you claim. Yet. Look at most of the responses I get in the pit nowadays. It’s a slightly more vulgar great debates for the most part. Of course we have outliers like our special friend below who is unaware of his own racism.
And I don’t even punch back! People said all sorts of perverse, vulgar, and ignorant hate speech directed at me for no rational and honest reason. There were rational reasons but they weren’t honest. Yet, did I respond in kind? Did I punch back? Do I direct perverse and vulgar and obviously untrue statements at them? No. But neither do act like a Gandhi and say nothing.
On a scale of 1-10 people would start in on me with stuff that would be near the high end of the offensiveness scale. I’d respond, if at all with something around the 1-3. Yet I’m the troll? Lol. That’s not how it works in the eyes of anyone with integrity now is it?
The real issue is that the left on this board, for a large part, are bullies. And when they can’t drive off a differing viewpoint with their cyber-bullying and their hate speech they start to rules lawyer. Ah yes, the despicable rules lawyer which is lower than even a troll. Thankfully, the mods here do have integrity. I may disagree with many of the mods. I’ve been insulted by the mods. I may have been pitted by a mod. But the one thing that I can respect about the mods is I have never seen them take stuff personally and use that as an excuse to abuse their power. That’s a hard thing to do and not many can do it. So kudos to the mods. And I’m surprised at the hard time people give the mods in the ATMB.
The bottom line is this: I wouldn’t come to a board that was predominantly left wing if I did not find value in hearing what the posters have to say. Many of you folks are smart, well educated, and have well articulated arguments. I have learned a lot reading and participating in these forums.
