AudreyK, you’re not alone. I really dislike boards that allow colored text. IMO, most people eventually go back to black text, but some people are “artsy” and like to make every single post of theirs pink and a wacky large font. Think teenagers here. And it is distracting and usually quite ugly.
Instead of banning text of color (I think I’d get flamed if I said “colored text”), why not just make it harder for people to use it? There’s an option in the main vBulletin control panel that reads:
Allow vBcode Buttons & Clickable Smilies?
This global switch allows you to completely disable vBcode buttons and clickable smilies.
Users can still type the text formatting tags manually, just like before.
Color text is exactly the same thing as smilies–a matter of personal taste, not of content. If there isn’t a real reason to get rid of it–such as taking up more bandwidth, which I’m assuming it doesn’t–then it should remain.
