Requesting help from someone OS to buy something for me in Aus.

Hi there.

Are there any rules forbidding me from posting a ‘Help Me Buy Something’ in MPSIMS?

What I want to do is find someone in Canada who has access to purchase something from the Royal Canadian Mint and ship it to me in Australia. The RCM will not ship outside Canada and the US, and I simply cannot find these items in Australia. I can find them on ebay at around double the cost price, so want to avoid that hike if possible.

The total cost of the items is around $CAD30.00 plus shipping, so I’m not buying a tonne of gold here.

I appreciate that I may be opening myself up to scam artists who’ll take my money and run, so before I chose to do it, I would try and make sure they were a ‘regular’ and hopefully, if they are regular they may be ethical as well.

Your advice before I post would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I’d be very surprised to have a mod come into this thread and say, “Sure, sounds fine.”

When you say “regular”, do you mean as in “a board regular”? And you think that the simple fact of being a board “regular” at an Internet message board confers some kind of saintly ethical halo? Honey, [scrolls up to check registration date], yep, you sure ain’t been here very long. Some of the most regular posters here are people I wouldn’t even trust with my e-mail address, let alone with my money.

I mean, geez, you talk about your incorrigible optimist.

Now, if you already knew someone on the Boards in real life, that would be different, but as it is, do yourself a BIG favor and find another way.

Okay, I don’t see where you’re getting that the RCM won’t ship anywhere besides to Canada or the U.S. Just because it only lists those two places on the “shipping page” doesn’t mean they refuse to ship anywhere else in the world.

Maybe they just didn’t feel like giving space to a list of all the countries in the world where they do ship. For one thing, I find it hard to believe that other Dominion countries couldn’t get their hands on RCM goods. Part of their business involves catering to coin collectors, and coin collectors are world-wide. Why else would they have links to other countries’ mints on their website?

Call them, or e-mail them, and ask.

Failing that, I’d suggest that you go through a reputable coin dealer. Look on Google under “numismatist Australia” or something like that.

Everything DDG says is right on the money.

I also note the Canadian Mint says on their order page

Perhaps an email to them would get you what you want. I bet they ship to other countries, but might use other methods and perhaps need to handle that differently.

Please try there first before you make any post to the board.

On the coin dealers page of the Mint’s site they have a dealer listed in your city, Caught@Work.

Cool.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did actually contact the RCM and no, they wont ship to Australia. I should have stated that.

I wont post the question but will follow through with local dealers.

Thanks.
