Required time of residency to legally live in Colorado?

I moved to Colorado recently and I’m looking to get everything switched over to the new info including my drivers license, voter registration, etc. I have been here over a month, have a permanent residency, local bank account etc.

What are the requirements and process I have to go through in order to become a living Colorado resident?

Thanks in advance, I’m sure your answers are saving me hours at the DMV

In Hawaii, they threw out most residency requirements. All one needs is an intent to live here such as having a domicile, registering to vote or get a state ID or drivers license.

Here is the DMV web site.

It looks like a driver’s license conversion can be done right away. You need a current license from your former state and will probably need to surrender it. A passport might help matters if you have one. That sounds pretty typical and all I had to do when I moved from Louisiana to Massachusetts. The conversion is pretty fast and painless.

You need a pair of Birkenstocks, some wool socks, and a fleece sweater vest. And a dog.

I was told pickup truck too. No?

Well, that goes without saying. Where’s the dog gonna sit? And what would you do with the new license plates?

In-state tuition requires a minimum of one year residency in the state. You can find that yourself since I saved you hours at the DMV with a 0.1 second search on Google.

You have to go to two different places for this. You get your driver’s licence and voter registration in an office of the local State of Colorado Building. You get your car tags at the County office. I just had to hand in my California Drivers License and they just issued me one for Colorado (this was in 1991; YMMV, heh). You’ll need your registration and license plates in hand (and “pink slip” if you have it), and also proof of insurance to register your vehicle.

You only need Birkenstocks and wool socks if you live upcountry.

You are one if you intend to be.

You can change your license and registration as soon as you like as per the above links; you don’t need to wait three months, you can do it anytime.

If you are concerned at all about proving residency for in-state tuition (also as mentioned above, one year) or some such, then simply save your earliest cancelled rent checks or utility bills in order to prove it. Residency begins when you take up residence, not when you get your drivers license.
