Looks interesting, although I haven’t read the linked article yet (I came across it through another media source).
A cemetery was discovered in Maryland and those buried there were found to be slaves. DNA research has allowed the identification of their descendants in unprecedented detail. Here’s the link:

I was wondering at first why’d they bury the descendants of slaves in Maryland.
Same thought. Confusion about who had been buried could be avoided if reworded to ‘Descendants of 27 slaves buried in Maryland alive’.

27 Maryland slaves’ current descendants located.
Fewer words, more punch, and no ambiguity. It’s no great leap to realize the slaves themselves are dead by now.
It was late, I was tired, that’s the worst I could do at the time. I couldn’t quite get the phrase “buried alive” in there for a final flourish.
