Resident Evil: Afterlife

This movie snuck up on me, when I heard about it I had to go see it. A lot of the action was just silly, and the plot had some big holes, but the look and feel were great, and it’s a fun movie. If you liked Resident Evil Extinction you’ll probably like this one.

Anybody else seen it?

I thought it was terrible. The rest of the movies in this series at least had something resembling a plot. This was just a mess all over the place. Who the hell was the big-assed ax guy? When did the zombies start showing that level of intelligence to tunnel underground (through reinforced concrete mind you)? How did Alice survice a head on collision with a mountain? And if she did

Why didn’t she figure out that the other guy might have survived. He was like what, 20 feet from her?

At least the previous movies has some sort of story line. It might not always have been a good one, but at least it was there. This was just one big mess. Sure the zombies looked good, and there were some good action scenes, but those weren’t enough to carry this movie in my opinion. Plus they broke with tradition and didn’t have Mila nude at all, not even in a clone vat.

Didn’t the guy have all the superman cells or whatever too? Whereas he had just turned Alice back into a normal human, so if anything it makes more sense that only he would have survived.

On top of what Atrael said already this was the first movie I saw in 3D, and I was totally underwhelmed.

I didn’t know it was 3D when I went to see it, but it gave them the excuse to charge $11.00 for a matinee ticket that should have been $7.50.

A lot of the scenes seemed too clean, rather fake. At least it didn’t strain my eyes and and the picture wasn’t dark like old 3D movies.

I can’t believe none of them thought the bad guy was going to come back to life after being “killed” the first time. I’d have kept pumping shotgun shells into him and burned the body. I thought the quarters in the shotgun shells was a neat idea. I guess that used the 3D effect decently.

He was a character from the Resident Evil 5 video game, he is called the Executioner.
Actually I saw a lot of little things in this movie that seemed like they were trying to bring it back closer to the plot of the game series. The main bad guy (Wesker), the executioner, the Redfields. Now they need to bring in Leon and Ada Wong.

Was it filmed in 3D or just forced into it later?

I have never seen a Resident Evil film. Are any of them good?

The films are neat to look at, the plots aren’t great, but there is a kick-ass chick killing zombies. That’s about the extent of it!

I thought the first one was kinda trashy fun.

The others, not so much.

The first 3 at least had something resembling a storyline.

1st movie: Evil corporation is developing virus in secret underground facility, someone tries to steal the virus, it gets loose, kills people then re-animates them as zombies. Also possible to mutate into abominated version of person. Group of heroes attempts to find out what went wrong, then escape when the find the zombie hordes.

2nd movie: Virus gets out of the underground facility and starts infecting population. Band of heroes tries to escape the town before evil corporation vaporizes it. Evil corporation has also done experiments on mutating people with the virus, and controling them remotely.

3rd movie: Virus escapes the city, infects the entire world. Bands of survivors have a nomatic existance moving from place to place. Band of heroes finds out about a secret facility of the evil company that is working on some research, breaks in to wipe out evil company and finds clone army.

4th movie: Random people in random situations. Some huge ax weilding guy, zombies that have construction and sapper skills, unkillable bad guys, and the usual assortment of idiotic good guys.
oh, and again…Mila keeps her clothes on. They even teased us with a shower scene set up.

Yeah I was really waiting for her to take off that black spandex outfit. :frowning: It’s also funny that the guy whose sole job seems to be sitting in the basement with the prisoner suddenly shows up.

The 4th movie had a plot, a continuation on the 3rd. Even less (non-evil) humans are left, Alice and Alice clones take out another Umbrella base, she keeps looking for other humans in Alaska, runs into amnesia Claire, continues to search, finds the group of people in LA, finds out what they were looking for was actually a ship not a geographic location, finds the ship was…a trap!

According to a movie review I heard, it was filmed in the same 3D tech as Avatar.

Don’t forget the zombie virus had some kind of effect on the water that turned the entire planet into a freaking desert. That little bit at the beginning ruined the entire series for me.

My favorite is the 2nd, I don’t care (much) whether Milla gets naked or not, but this one just had a weird random plot, I think it’s the weakest of the franchise. I really did not like the 3d. I’m not a big fan of it in general, but this was really bad. They had all these shallow depth of field shots. Who needs the head to be in 3d? Especially if it means the person standing right in front of them is a blur, very distracting effect, IMHO.

Ah, indeed. Wikipedia lists it as so. At least it is a “real” 3D movie.
