Resisting the urge to stream ahead when watching a series with a partner

My better half and I are currently watching Season 4 of True Detective and boy, is it good (at least the first two episodes).

Unfortunately he is gone all week, so it will be another 5 days before we can watch episode 3 together. I am SOoooosoSSSSoooooSooo tempted to watch the third episode, as I am sure I wouldn’t mind seeing it twice (the show is complicated; I have watched the first 2 episodes again, and picked up on details I didn’t retain the first time).

Do you ever “cheat” on your partner by watching ahead? I think there is even a name for this behavior, but I can’t think what it is.

Probably the only thing that is stopping me from doing it is the realization that he would be able to tell, when turning on the show, that Apple TV wanted to queue up episode 4, and he would tease me mercilessly. Is it worth it? Maybe …

When the new season of Bridgerton is released, my wife will watch the whole thing in two days. Then she’ll watch it again with me, an episode a night, because I don’t like to gorge on media like that. The modern binge culture is not for me.

We don’t mind doing it like this. She’s watched every season five or six times, so she’d rewatch it anyway, and I like watching things with her. Also, given available time, I’m more likely to watch it when we’re together than on my own. And finally, there’s no way I’d be able to stop her.

So, sometimes the arrangement works out.

When Barry was airing I used to watch it each week immediately after re-watching the previous week’s episode. I started doing it because I couldn’t clearly recall elements of the previous week’s plot once. I liked it and think I enjoyed the show more because I did that. I would do the same again for a show with similarly short episodes.

aww, you found someone again? that’s cool …I remember you were unhappy for a long while …

We do not watch series together. She usually has too much going on, and has to sneak a single episode in. I prefer to binge for hours.

My wife is almost never absent for any appreciable length of time, so it hasn’t come up. There have been times where I was interested in watching an episode where she wanted to do something else, but I can wait a day.

After you watch episode 3, go back to episode 2 and ffwd to the end. Then next time you pull it up it should have episode 3 queued up, right?

Heh heh. I had considered that sort of deviousness … :smiling_imp:

My wife and I have very different tastes in TV shows. There’s rarely a show we both want to watch.
