Eps 8 through 11 (Out of Gas, Ariel, War Stories, and Trash) are mine, plus of course Our Mrs. Reynolds.
Out of Gas makes me weepy every goddamn time. “Hey…y’all gonna be here when I wake up?”

Thanks for the plug, as a writing effort of mine is on the front page of the site today. You should be able to work out which one it is based on the author names.
I think that’s the best hour long episode of television ever.
It’s so nice to see someone else join the club.
I think Objects in Space and Out of Gas are my favourites.
Maybe.
I think the ones I haven’t rewatched relentlessly are Safe, Jaynestown, and Heart of Gold. Good, but not mindblowing.
My faves: Our Mrs. Reynods, Out of Gas, and War Stories.
All right. You guys have convinced me. I watched them all when they were on, and then after my son bought the set, but that was some time ago. So now that he is home from college, I suppose watching them all again is a better a summer goal than many…
snort Thanks Claire!
Where’s the love for Jaynestown? "You guys had a riot? On account a’ me?"
It’s been slowly dropping out of my favorites list, but I couldn’t say exactly why other than I’m not big on humiliation humor. Simon’s scenes in Jaynestown are uncomfortable enough that I don’t rewatch it much.
The scene at the hospital check-in in Ariel is just as cringe-worthy, but it’s such a good episode overall that I forgive it. Simon’s assertiveness with the post-op and the scene at the end between Mal and Jayne are thrilling no matter how often I watch it.
“When do we get to go to the crappy planet where I’m a hero??”
"This must be what going mad feels like.’
Hal, remember that you have to watch Serenity (the movie) when you are done with the series.
Yup. And then I can start watching season 2, right?
Right?
Maybe it’s just that I have a hard time being uncomfortable watching Kaylee coming on to someone. I mean, if I were in Simon’s place, I would be very comfortable indeed there. Unless you’re referring to him posing as a mud-buyer, but that doesn’t really seem all that humiliating to me.
Of course, “Jaynestown” also has that introspective bit at the end, where Jayne can’t understand how he deserves to be a hero, and Mal’s explaining how sometimes, people just need a hero, even if the hero doesn’t deserve it.
According to TV without Pity, That is season 2.
I just finished watching it for the first time on Hulu, too. It definitely kicks ass!
That actually is what I mean. Simon trying to bluff his way into the foreman’s good graces makes me cringe bad. I actually don’t mind the Simon and Kaylee thing (although his flopping around in The Message pains me).
Awesome the Firefly stills finds fans- I think endurance is one of the marks of true quality in movies and television shows. It’s so rare to find a show that is as original as Firefly was, and that was one of the things I loved about it- there were a lot of creative risks taken, and most of them paid off.
It’s been a while, so I must have moved into that last stage of grief at some point, because I’m willing to say now…maybe it’s a good thing that Firefly ended when it did. Wait, wait, put the pitchforks down, hear me out! One of the things I think most of us fans loved about the show was how consistently high quality it was- part of this is surely due to the face that there are so few episodes. Firefly never got a chance to grow old, or stagnant- it’s actors didn’t leave and have new ones do a poor job standing in. It didn’t outgrow it’s concept, or run out of stories to tell but still keep putting episodes out. It’s a sharp, short, brilliant ride that left you wanting more. I think Firefly’s brevity has become one of the reasons it’s retained a fan following after all this time.
Where Jayne stubbornly trots out his hard-learned lines? I love how Adam Baldwin plays that scene: Jayne has been through the torments of schooling to learn his little speech, and by God he’s going to use it.
I wanted to see him take her in a manly way.
My GOD, I want that woman…

Every time I hear about somebody discovering the greatness that is Firefly now I get irrationally angry. If the latecomers had been there when it was on TV, we might have had more seasons, but they weren’t there. Yes, it is great, but you should have watched it then, now it’s too late.
Well, don’t blame me. I’m in Mexico, it never even aired around here.
