Resources/references for HR position

It looks that I will be moving into a Human Resources position, from a more general administrative one.
What are some good reference tools that are out there that would help me to get up to speed?
Is there an industry standard book? a quality website?
How would I best go about educating myself in this area?
thanks.

Ok, this is pitiful–0 replies? help!
Trying again with a BUMP.

I’m not in HR, but there is the Society for Human Resources Management.

Moved to IMHO.

As an HR professional for the last 5 years, I have found the following books a wealth of knowledge:

The HR Answer Book, by Shawn Smith & Rebecca Mazin
Human Resources in the 21st Century, by Marc Effron & Robert Gandossy

And, believe it or not, The Human Resources Kit for Dummies, by Max Messmer. This one comes with a CD Rom filled with valuable forms used in HR as well as templates for various letters and memos.

All the books are available on Amazon.com.

Good luck! HR is challenging for sure, but is one of the greatest departments to work for.

Good Luck!
