since when. i just got a warning from my internet service provider from the mpaa directing me to that site. it seems to exist to me. as for the other dude who asked me the difference between someone who downloads and would never go see it and someone who claims the same. the difference is they are a liar. im broke so i will never go see a damn 10 dollar movie. ever!! dont believe me i dont give a shit. wont ever get a penny from me.
You say this without even trying to go to the site?
Since you seem unable to work out what it means to go to a website, let me help you:
Done that?
OK, now tell me what you see.
Hint: it’s not a website about copyright.
Moron.
So you think that you’re entitled to have a luxury even if you can’t or won’t pay for it? Please tell me why people should continue to make films, then, if nobody will pay for them.
See, the thing about spelling (and grammar) is that it IS important. It’s true that respectcopyright.org does not exist. However *respectcopyrights.org *does. One tiny letter, such a big difference!
Furthermore, the text there says:
So, like it or not you are in fact in the wrong here.
Thanks for the clarification.
It seems that brianbertz is stupid in a slightly different way than i initially suspected.
It also seems that “they” are on to him…
So let’s consider a different scenario. Let’s say that you discover that your neighbor has an unsecured wireless router. Let’s also say that you are absolutely sure that he has unlimited usage. If you otherwise would only use the internet at the library or at your local starbucks, is it now okay to use your neighbor’s unsecured wifi knowing that he can never use all of the bandwidth? What if you put a splitter onto your neighbor’s cable and watched free cable that you otherwise wouldn’t be paying for?
In both cases you wouldn’t use them otherwise and it’s not costing them anything, but the fact remains that someone is paying for the content that you are consuming for free. How do you morally justify consuming content for free when other people are paying for it, including the person you obtained it from?
Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of issues with how copyrights are used and enforced, but I don’t think “well, I wouldn’t pay for it, so it’s okay for me to use it if I can get it for free” is a well-reasoned moral argument against modern copyrights laws. In fact, this is very much the attitude that helps get these ridiculous laws passed that hurt people that may violate the letter of the law but still ultimately support the arts they love like downloading music for free but attending concerts and buying merchandise or maybe downloading a movie because they hate the theater experience but buying it when it comes out on blue ray or dvd. One might make arguments either way about those latter examples, but at least they contribute something when they’re enjoying the content.
i was just saying that site does exist. i didnt call any names so why you talking shit liitle fucking douchebag. ur liittle pussy ass wouldnt get away with saying that to my face. fucking faggot.
its not savecopyright its savecopyrights.org and i have been on it, the whole damn site works perfectly. funny how you all say im dumb when you stupid fucks are typing the wrong address. let me guess… majority of you think ur cool cuz you can talk shit on the internet but reality is in real life i and many others would kick your fucking ass. thats not talking shit thats stating a fact whether you idiots choose to believe it or not. doesnt matter.
Dude, you’re the one who posted to a thread that no one had even read in over 8 years just to bitch that you’re not going to pay to see movies anyway so you’re not hurting anyone. That alone was enough to call you a moron, much less this “I know bad words and think being gay is bad lol!!” crap.
Edit: And we’re discussing respectcopyright(s) not savecopyright(s) - neither http://www.savecopyrights.org/ nor http://www.savecopyright.org/ are real websites.
Ooooh, an internet tough guy!
Please tell me what you’d do if i said it to your face!
Here, i’ll say it again:
Moron.
well to me the cable example is different in the way you use it. the movies i download the person who did pay for either the dvd or to watch the movie is willingly uploading it for me and others to watch it. in my mind thats different than splitting a dudes cable without his knowledge or consent. i had my landlord who lived in an apartment below me and he ran a wire up to my apartment and i got free cable tv. with his permission. so thats just how i choose to view things and other people can believe what they want to believe is right and i wont bash anyone else for it. if you dont think its right ok cool. big fucking deal. you are your own person and can think and do what you want. i wont feel like im any better as a person morally or whatever. so anyone who doesnt like how i rationalize how i do things. get a fucking life and get over it. worry about your own damn fucking life. im not you, you dont run my life and i dont run yours. i dont care about any of your lifes or decisions. as for the morons who think they are tough on the computer and think im stupid. i scored in the top 95 percentile of my state tests all through grade school and high school. except for english. sorry it was like 91 percent. im sorry thats too stupid for you kids. you dont have to believe it cuz i know its true and dont give 2 shits cuz im most likely smarter than most of you. im no better but i am smarter. now im done with this dumb site. most of you are a damn joke. go talk shit to some people in real life. have fun.
whoohoo a typo. get over it. why do you think being gay is bad? i have friends who are gay dude. your an asshole dude. dont judge people.
Mhendo, that fucking does it. Listen here, you candy ass sissy. I have your IP address thanx to my reverse haxor 5x1!!z. You are in big trouble, because now I know where you are.
If you really want to get in my face, you can meet me in front of my house. I live at 787 Lincome Street, Rochester, NY 18752. Just try and come and say all that shit to my face. I will fucking DESTROY you, you sissy boy. I will be waiting, with my knuckles wrapped and my biceps pumped. 8 PM Tomorrow night. We will see if you are all fucking talk or not.
Hey, moron, when you’re giving someone an internet address, getting the exact address right is sort of important.
Do you know how the internet works, or is the librarian doing the clicking for you while you jerk off?
He’s not judging you. He has objectively determined that you’re a moron. No judgment required, just clear-headed analysis.
Oh, well, that settles it then.
They’re so cute at that age!
The site is http://www.respectcopyrights.org/
It does exist, and we will probably hear more about it as most of the major US ISP’s quietly signed a deal with the MPAA that starting in July 2012 they are on the hook for sending warnings to their users if the MPAA reports them for illegal downloads.
They got off to a late start but they are now doing it. Here is how it works: the MPAA scours file sharing and P2P sites and harvests the IP addresses of their users. They report those IPs to the appropriate ISP, who is now obligated to send a warning to the user with that IP. A second offense leads to a sterner warning and subsequent offenses lead to throttling the speed of their connection, forcing them to a redirect web page every time they try to load a page, and so on.
So **brianbertz **got caught stealing movies, the MPAA reported him to his ISP, and his ISP sent him a warning email directing him to the above site for more information. He searched the web to gain a better understanding of the ramifications of this, and found this thread.
While **bringbertz **seems to be kind of an asshat he does have a point - piracy doesn’t really make a big dent in theater attendance. It just adds to the numbers of people who have seen the film that would probably not have seen it otherwise. That still helps their sponsors, advertisers, product placements, etc. and the movie itself reach an even wider audience. Most people pay to see a movie in the theater because they want to see it in a theater and not because there is absolutely no other way they can view it. Movies producers won’t fold up and go out of business they will capitalize on that additional viewership with more blatant advertising and product placements and still rake in the same ticket sales they ever would have.
The MPAA also has a point though - it is still theft by any reasonable definition.
