Okay, on another board I frequent I found a really appropriate response to trolls.
Of course, the dilema is that you just want to ignore them and say nothing so you don’t encourage the little shits. On the other hand, you are just too peeved off to walk away. The solution? A blank post… it says “you’re an idiot” without letting yourself be lured into another pointless argument with a mental midget.
Seems like a good middle ground between ignoring and flaming. I’ll try it!

Voted “Most Empathetic”- can you believe that?
I am sticking with the Do Not Feed the Trolls policy myself… coz it seems the more you feed them, the bigger they grow. And we already know from little Mikey’s first thread… he is way out of proportion already!
I really try to be good but it just isn’t in my nature!
You are still feeding the troll even if you leave a blank message because he still knows you are reading his posts to get any kind of response from you. Best way to get rid of them is to ignore them and post nothing.
I’ve learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it.
Although it was amusing to see a whole thread full of blank posts, I became irritated when I saw many of his topics hogging up prime real estate at the top of the list. For that same reason, I will not play the hijack all of his threads game because not only does it keep them high on the list, it gives people the impression that he has become popular.
I tend not to click on a thread unless the subject line or author compels me to. Up until today I had never opened a MM thread, but thought I should check out the “fan club” topic because it had 30 posts (gee, he must have gotten popular all of a sudden). Total waste of time. Why not just start a “what’s your favorite holiday” thread and post to that one (and any other genuine threads), the better to sink the offending troll.
When I see a troll at the top of the list, my new strategy will be to apply the mechanism of artificial selection: post to the other adjacent threads, even if I normally wouldn’t. I figure it’s the lesser of two evils.
Ignore him and he posts to himself,
Insult him and he doesn’t get it,
Hijack him and he plays along,
Post nothing and he starts more new threads,
Give positive feedback to his better attempted topics and he turns troll again.
Maybe we should just talk him into posting a photo of his huge dick so he will get banned! It shouldn’t be too hard seeing as how in love with himself he is.
I really try to be good but it just isn’t in my nature!
If you’re not secure enough with yourself, you’ll respond to “trolls” as you “straight dope elders” call them. AND, if you do respond to them, you’re only playing into their mind games.
Just ignore them. (As I should have ignored you, but I’m not secure enough with myself.)
