What would you do, really, if a counter person called you “bitch” when you were checking out?
Question my hearing and/or life decisions.
I’d ask to speak to the manager and let them know.
Not sure what else there is to do. If you tipped them I might see if I could get the tip back but that’d probably need the manager.
I’d be having a word with their manager which better happen quickly before I leave without finishing our transaction.
Um… not enough context to answer.
It’s a longish story.
But, the Lil’wrekker was checking out at KFC and the counter girl called her a “bitch” for checking her order, seems it was taking too long and others were waiting. (Large order, $78, turns out it wasn’t right)
The manager was called. They got it straightened out.
Then as they were leaving she heard the Manager say “That bitch is a karen”
My tactics would include every review site I could easily reach (Google, Yelp, etc.), plus contacting corporate.
I’ve worked in customer service, I get frustration with customers, I get being embarrassed by being caught screwing up. Still, you do NOT bitch about the customers in their hearing, nor in front of other customers. Save it for the break room, off the premises, Customers Suck, …
That’s the point at which your daughter should contact KFC corporate customer service, and let them know about it.
Yeah…time to lodge a complaint with the corporation and hope they care.
You could also leave a Yelp review but really…does anyone believe those?
If I was handed a to go order in a bag, and then stood at the register with people in line behind me taking things out of the bag and inspecting them to make sure they were right… that’s disruptive and selfish behavior on my part.
Maybe the staff was rude in response, but even if your kid(?) did that in the most polite way possible, they were still themselves being rude. Not for checking the order before leaving, but for doing it there at the counter.
I 100% agree.
The response from the restaurant should have been, “Can you step aside while you check your order?” and not, “Bitch.”
She didn’t think(age 23, my kid) she did much more than a cursory look in the bag, maybe a minute) was fixin’ to move over when the clerk got snippy. The manager came out, my kid explained.
The manager did send the clerk back and another came up to check out others.
IMO, the clerk acting out caused others to have to wait longer on a very busy Saturday after college ballgame in town. Mgr. did correct in getting someone up there fast while looking at my daughter’s receipt. She found the discrepancy.
Fixed it by offering more chicken to the order. My daughter accepted it, again IMO, rightly.
Wrong was the manager mouthing off in her earshot.
Yes, corporate has been emailed.
Disagree. Especially when it’s a big order, the customer is entitled to check that the staff got it right.
If you go away from the counter, then come back and say there’s stuff missing from the order, the likely response will be : « It was all there when you took it away. »
E-mail corporate and keep e-mailing until you get an actual response, not a form letter, with the location of the franchise, date and time of day.
Don’t just call them out for rudeness.
Say that in your opinion, both « Karen » and « bitch » are sexist insults and you will be telling all your friends that the KFC franchise discriminates on the basis of sex with female customers.
Ask for an apology in writing from the manager.
It would depend on if I was being a bitch or not.
Why go away? Take 2 steps to the side.
Sixty seconds can be a long time when there are lots of people waiting behind you, and she should have moved aside if it was feasible to do so.
But it is absolutely normal and reasonable to check that one’s order is correct.
And the clerk and the manager were both unconscionably rude, assuming she heard them correctly. (Like @Smapti, my first thought would probably be to question whether I’d heard correctly—or whether the comment was really aimed at me.)
People do pay attention to online restaurant reviews, but I highly doubt anyone’s decision whether or not to patronize a KFC depends on its Yelp rating.
What would you have thought if you were the 3rd person in line? bad bad thoughts?
I don’t know. I mostly care about getting my order correct. I could care less what the employees think or say about me. Generally most fast food places I’ve frequent are quick to make your order correct, even if you’ve left the store. Mistakes happen. It’s just not worth the ill will on the off chance someone is running a scam to get an extra large fries or whatever.
Although I did experience a similar bizarre situation just an hour or so ago. There’s this farm down the street the sells bagels and breakfast sandwiches. They are never super busy and service tends to be slow but it’s in our regular rotation. It’s usually like one old lady working there who usually recognizes me and my wife (I think she also worked at my wife’s high school when she was a kid).
Anyhow they were slightly busier than normal today (meaning like 2 people in front of me and maybe a few call-in orders). So after at least 30 minutes of waiting for my egg and bacon sandwich I innocuously asked how much longer it would be. Even my wife is texting me like “where are you, are you ok” because I’ve been gone for so long. Well much to my surprise the old lady gets hysterical and starts yelling at me about how busy they are how she “doesn’t want to yell at me”. I’m just sort of like what the fuck is happening here and why am I being yelled at for asking the very reasonable question of in how much longer might my sandwich be along?
Now I imagine there is probably something else going on there (like maybe the fact that this business is probably going under). But I found the whole situation very off-putting and unsettling.
So what I will probably “do” is not go there ever again and instead use the other sandwich shop across town where I can call ahead and the food will be ready in the 10 minutes it takes me to drive there.
