Resume? CV?

I need to write a resume. Unfortunately, from the ground up.

I’d written one that I thought was great, and had updated as needs required over the years. But now, when I need one again, I find I have nothing that can access that old Pagemaker 4.0 format.

I’m not trying to get a job, so the fluff sections such as “Special Skills” are out. This is in lieu of filling out a job record form for the state licensing board. While they say a Resume will suffice, I suspect what they’re looking for is actually a Curriculum Vitae.

I’m no neophyte at this, but I need to produce quickly. Advice?

If you register at the hotjobs site they have a resume builder which will help you to build a standard resume.

If I remember correctly, you can either print out an html version of it or save it as a MS word file

Actually, I think I did mine on monster, not hotjobs

A Curriculum Vitae is for someone who is looking for a professional job and has the credentials and generally the publishing history to merit such a comprehensive overview,

I am thinking your need is for a resume.

Ah, going for the Texas P.G. before the grandfathering period ends in September, are we?

My CV is organized:

Education
Professional Positions Held
Consulting Experience
Research Interests and Experience
Teaching Interests and Experience
Other Professional Activities
Affiliations
Technical Skills
Publications

If I had any licenses (I’m not bothering with the P.G., although I probably should), it’d go after Education.

What’s a P.G.?

MS Word has some basic templates that seem to work.

You’ve got it Pantellerite. Actually, most people I know in the biz are not bothering with it, with the licensing fee ($200) most often cited as a deterrent.

A Texas P. G. is a license as a Texas Professional Geoscientist.

I was able to open the old Pagemaker document in Notepad and extract the text. I think it will demand an extensive rewrite as what I percieve to be needed here is something between a CV and a resume. I’m not seeking a job, merely seeking to convince the state licensing board that I’m worthy, and can be trusted when hiring 20 guys to head out into the swamp with machetes and dynamite. We will not bother the beavers.

Good luck with that; I’m sure it will be a breeze. Several of my friends have already gotten theirs (I even got to play Professional Reference once). I thought about applying during the grandfathering period, but I don’t really need it (or more letters behind my name) and–most importantly–200 bucks is 200 bucks!
