Resume help

I am trying to change jobs after many years of being stuck in a mindless, dead end one. A bit rusty on the resume thing, so here’s a question. When listing your job history, and it asks the “reason for leaving” at your current job, are they asking the reason you left, which in this case would be n/a, or are they wanting to know the reason you WISH to leave, in which case I will blather on about more challenges, etc. Thanks for the input!!!

I’d read it as why you left…so it wouldn’t apply to your current position.

But what kind of resume are you doing that asks questions? It sounds more like a job application.

What type of field are you looking to get into? The ‘right’ answer for how certain things are handled differ quite a bit depending on the field. Give us an idea of what world you’re playing in, and you’ll get some better focused advice.

Good luck!

Right now it’s NA. But when you are asked why in a interview, never, ever, say anything bad about your current employer. Say how great the wannabe job is, maybe say the commute to you old job is bad, but do NOT complain about them.

However, now for some general advice:

**Hire a pro. ** Look, nowadays it’s almost impossible to get a job by applying. You needs to network in (best, and thus go into LinkedIn, and mine that puppy like mad) or have them try to recruit you.

In order to do #2, you need the right keywords that the recruiters are going to use to search with in your profession. I assume you use Monster, etc. When you post your resume there, and you have the right keywords, recruiters with contact you for their company. Your chances of being hired just multiplied by 10X.

A pro should only charge $100-$300, and it’s worth many times that.

But how to find a pro?

There doesn’t seem to be any in the Nashville area, because I’ve looked.

Monster has a service, and try Craiglist- do they have it out there?

Thanks for the input…it was an application, not a resume. There was no time to have this professionaly done, there was a one week window from posting to closing date. I think I did a good job…just worried about a damn DUI I got 15 years ago though…hoping that doesn’t knock me off the list immediately, as this is THE job for me, and I am nowhere near THAT person anymore!!

Did the resume ask about non-felony convictions?
