Resume Question: List all schools, or only those I hold a degree from?

I’m updating the old resume for the first time since grad school. I have 2 advanced degrees from 2 different schools and an undergrad degree. But I did my first two years of undergrad at a different school than I graduated from. Do I list them both?

I would think only the degree granting institutions would get the job done, but I don’t want to be accused of selective truth telling. I have no reason to omit my first undergrad school, except in the interest of brevity.

Thanks.

I wouldn’t list schools which I attended but received no degree. It doesn’t give the employer any crucial information about you.

On the resume you’re fine to list only the schools you got your degree from, if brevity is good. If you’re looking to fill out the page, or think maybe your interviewer went to the other school and you want to open the door for chit-chat, you could include them all.

On an application, there is often some wording that the information you provide needs to be complete and correct. If that’s the case, make sure to add all schools on the application.

The resume is a marketing tool. The application is more of an official document.

IMO just list the schools from which you hold a degree. That is all that the employer will care about.

For employment resumes: degrees are fine. In fact, I’ve seen suggestions to leave off graduate degrees to avoid the “overqualified” trap in some cases.

Note that when applying to schools, you must list every school. Many schools share information and if they find out you didn’t list something, they will send you packing. (They assume you are hiding bad grades and such.) Resume fudging in academia is a serious offense.
