Hi all,
Apologies if this has already been covered, but I’ve been off the boards for a while.
Saw a trailer for ROTK the other day and I saw no allusions to the scouring of the shire - does anyone know if they’re including this (not to mention the events following) in the movie, or are they just going for the typical wrap it up after the big fight thing?
That’s what I’ve heard too, though perhaps audience reaction to the films to date might change Jackson’s mind. I doubt it though.
It would seem to me that it’s too hard to carry an audience through the crowning, wedding, journey home, scouring of the shire and then the Grey Havens.
Maybe it’ll be in the Extended Edition - there are rumours all new footage will be shot for that, because the theatrical cut will be 3.5 hours long as it is - i.e. probably every scene shot is included.
The Scouring of the Shire was not and will not be included in either the movie or the EE DVD, per Jackson’s statements. It would simply be an unworkably long denouement and detract from the dramatic impact of the ending, not to mention make the movie about 4.5 hours long.
Not only was it not shot, but the Shire’s set was destroyed/broken down about two years ago. And since it took a year to grow, it’s not going to happen.
