Serious question: what’s a “spammer”? Is it a sock? A hinkbot? I’m guessing it’s some kind of bot, but what kind, exactly?
I’m not criticizing the banning, I’m just curious as to what kind of beastie a “spammer” is when it relates to a message board. I’ve never heard that particular terminology.

Some are bots and some are people - many of them have the exact same profile, so I’m sure those are bots. The RECAPTCHA system is supposed to keep the bots out but they’re always working on it.

Seriously? It’s a member whose primary purpose is to advertise/sell something, and who has no intention of being a contributing member of the community.

I’m seeing this as the equivalent.
Now I don’t have to try and like them. I say it’s better to save effort in the short term and see if they last a day.

See Wile E’s post #19. The spam message must have been deleted, or maybe it was in the sig line (I turned off sig lines).
I know what “spammer” means, but I didn’t see him trying to sell anything. At least at first. Hence my slight confusion. The funny thing is, since I didn’t notice him trying to sell anything, he (or it) can’t be all that good at it. Re-reading the thread, was it supposed to be “bing”, the new piece of crap Microsoft search engine?
His sig originally said something about how great Bing was, and he had an entry at one of the sites I consult, Stop Forum Spam. I’ve improved his sig a few times since banning him. 
Some of them just hit you with a long list of links or talk dirty; others try to be subtle and only do one spam post and one or two legit posts, or just put it in their sig lines. I think sigs are defaulted to off here, or most people just ignore them, so that tactic doesn’t work well here. But I’ve been having fun with REENCUTTYLIET’s.

How can they beat those captcha things? Well I gues I can’t figure out how they do most of what they do, but the captchas seem like a pretty tough thing for a non human to get by
OT but I have friends who are deaf blind who have trouble getting past those things.
One idea I’ve heard of is to use their captcha on your site. Every time someone enters the site looking for porn or whatever, they break a captcha for you.
Was this originally in MPSIMS? Because that’s pretty cool if it figured out the right forum to introduce itself. Or, well, scary.
