A revamped Straight Dope website (www.straightdope.com) is expected to launch later today (Tues 12/12/17). URLs will not change - users will simply be directed to the new site rather than the old. The site is being hosted by WordPress VIP and among improvements features mobile-friendly design. The launch should have no impact on the Straight Dope Message Board, but please advise ASAP if any issues arise.

For me it was the new version from about 25 minutes ago to 5 minutes ago, then the old version. Both loaded fine (I’m on a desktop).
The new version is very crowded-looking and will take a lot of getting used to. But whatever you need to do for security (and for mobile devices)–I’ll adjust to whatever it needs to be.
Any chance of offering v3.7.3 as an alternative?
I selected v3.7.3 at the lower left some time ago, and it stayed selected.

Does everyone get the ads at the bottom of the page now? Or do I have the crappy AdChoices phantom-ally installed?
If ads are on by default, is there a way disable them for SDMB registered members, like in the message boards?
(The ads don’t really bother me, but still, yuck!)
