I think it is a generational thing for the most part, even though I’m 20 and I think it’s pretty tacky. I’m relatively big busted, and have never had a problem with a strapless bra. I can’t imagine wearing a tank top with a visible bra underneath. It just seems, I don’t know, kind of embarassing.
I think it’s a lot less embrassing to have bra straps showing than to fall out of your strapless bra… I can never wear them as they are hard to find in my size (at least in my price range. I can’t even afford to splurge so I can get a decent one… like I’d ever wear it though) and when I did have one I found it insanely uncomfortable… just like I can’t wear underwire bras… never found one that I could wear all day, the most is about 10 minutes before I start to get a rash from rubbing or a bruise from the wire poking at me.
: shrug:
Well, I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree on the “embarassing” thing, then.
Nothing is wrong with it!
Anyone who thinks so seems kindof prudish to me.
Its not like not even wearing one!
It’s probably one of those fashion things started with some woman star. Anyone know who that is? I usually just ask a teenager where it started. Like with Britney & the bare abs.
I’d rather look at bra parts then boy underpants tops.
Warning, Male Perspective

It’s just a bra strap. Neither particularly bad or tacky, nor particularly exciting. For casual occasions, who cares? Now, for formal and/or professional occasions it’s inappopriate.
Er, and just to be clear, I’m talking about bras with spaghettie strap tops. If you can see the straps wearing a normal tank top or, God forbid, a tee shirt, that’s pretty sad.
And, sorry everyone, I couldn’t resist…

tlw, it’s not backwards at all. In traditionally hot at dry locations, people wore long, loose clothing, yes - but not because it keeps you cool. It simply reduces the evaporation of moisture away from the body. That makes you warmer.
And how about the people who come from tropical locations? Traditionally, they don’t wear very much at all. Just for the heck of it? No, of course not. Wearing as little clothing as possible in a very humid environment was to allow as much water as possible to evaporate from the skin and cool the body down.
Anyway, short story is, short shorts and tank tops, especially in more humid areas cough cough, New England, cough actually does help keep you cool. QED. Is it modest and decorous? YOU decide ;).

Revealing brassiere straps, especially on purpose, is cheap and tacky, in my not-so-humble opinion.
I don’t have a problem, though, with tank tops. I just make sure to either buy the ones that have straps wide enough to hide my brassiere straps or wear a racer-back style brassiere.
If I’m wearing a top or dress that has spaghetti straps, I’m sure to wear a strapless brassiere or a bustier.
I tend to do it a lot, actually. I live in Miami and I wear lots of tank tops, spaghetti strapped tops, etc. I really dislike strapless bras; they’re uncomfortable.
I also have too few bras to match the strap to the strap of the shirt I’m wearing. All of this results in me running around the city with lots of people seeing a bra strap that is usually a different color than my shirt.
When I go somewhere where I have to look respectful, I will. When I go out with friends, or just out on errands though, I don’t mind if people see my bra. It’s not the end of the world.
The way I figure it someone, somewhere, will always have a problem with an article of clothing I have on. I think I can live with that.
