For being a jerk here about our SIL, I have been struck with hives and gout the last 10 days. Gout in both big toes, and came on slowly in one foot, so ignored it, finally called doc, can’t get in for a few days, went to her affiliated clinic and kept my pride, by which I mean I only snivelled and begged when they told me to take my shoes off and only screamed once (for each foot) when putting shoes back on. Will treat hives with straight razor when I can stand easily. Mundane, pointless stuff, except I am now in awe of SIL’s magic powers.
OMG. You poor thing. Hurry and donate something or give money to a charity.
Man oh, man don’t shave hives off that sounds scary.
Feel better soon.
Thanks for the good wishes, B, and all best wishes for you and your medical concerns, which are much more serious than mine. Kidding about the razor. For the last, and next, few years, all our donation money goes to the SIL’s kids for university, but I will look in the seat cushions for a few more dollars for them!
I put Gout pain up there with abcessed tooth and shingles. Maybe even peeing out a kidney stone.
Drink lots and lots of water for Gout. It really helps.

Both gout and hives suck. Benedryl for the hives (no operating heavy machinery) and lots of water and cherry juice for the gout. Continue drinking more water than usual once the gout lets up. Best of luck to you and perhaps look for voodoo dolls of you when at your brother’s home.
I doubt you could have done anything short of murder to have warranted such torture. I’ve never had gout, but I had hives that did not respond to antihistamines. Three weeks of sheer hell. I’d have rather had the equivalent in pain; you can treat pain (usually). I was seriously ready to beg the docs to knock me out.
I hope yours are much more obedient and head to someone truly deserving. Since this is the MPSIMS and I don’t want to bring in politics, I won’t nominate someone truly deserving.
Thanks for the advice and good wishes: much appreciated. Tomorrow I will ransack the BIL/SIL abode for said doll. Any thoughts on what to do with it? Fireplace…no; throw off bridge…no…put in safety deposit box…can’t…breathe…
Next up: scheduled for prostate biopsy! At least I know where she stuck the pin.
Oh, ouchy!!
Prednisone would correct both gout and hives.
Just sayin’ . . .
feel better
For the voodoo doll, you have to take it to a professional to undo the voodoo and then have them destroy the doll in the prescribed way so that you don’t destroy yourself with it.
Or, you could just accompany it to a vacation in Belize to make sure it comes to no harm.
Throw the voodoo doll in the ocean from a cruise ship on your way to Belize!
~VOW
Take it to a priest to be blessed before departing for Belize. Then send SIL photos: “We’re having a great time!”
P.S. What happens if she sticks pins in another doll?
Colchicine and indocin … great for flares.
Don’t you dare touch that Voodoo doll!!
What you need is your own Voodoo doll. And a *Sage smudging of your home and possibly your SILs home.
Oh, man! Good-luck
(;))
(* maybe just a recipe of garlic/sage baked chicken, either one will work)
Very true, and I prescribe that for gout (at least I used to when colchicine was pennies a pill instead of big bux. But neither of those will touch hives.
I was a dope, not a doper, and so when the gout started to come on slowly, thought, maybe it’s sore feet from new shoes and will go away, so didn’t get colchicine & indomethacin prescriptions refilled (hey, pain free since 2016, I’m not getting older, I’m getting better, ‘cause that’s how that works, right? Right?!) so when it hit and I tried to see the doctor, couldn’t get in immediately, foot started to improve so I figured, no need to get prescriptions, then wham! the other foot flared up. Got the prescriptions but had I been quicker off the mark, likely would have been done with it all by now. There’s a lesson here somewhere, what could it be?:dubious:
Hives have subsided, but I’m pooped from this! Mundane and pointless, but thanks for letting me share and thanks for advice and humour!
Feel better soon!
