Yahoo! I just called the local Trader Joe’s and he said they have The Middle East Feast in the refrigerated section. And I looked up a picture of it last night, so I know what to look for. I’m really looking forward to it now. Thanks again!
Thanks, but even that is too much cooking for me right now. It was nice of you to write out the instructions though. I couldn’t tell from the Amazon site. Maybe someday I’ll try it.
Trader Joe’s brand peanut butter - if you like the non-sugary, just peanuts, salt and oil style peanut butter, this is for you!
Trader Joe’s brand garlic stuffed olives - perfect in a vodka martini, even better if you like em dirty
Ponti dry vermouth - again for the martinis, and also works as an excellent cooking wine
Purple Moon Shiraz - bright, lively fruit flavors that will make your tongue sing for the very reasonable price of 3.99 a bottle
Green Fin white table wine - lots of green apple flavor without tasting like candy, a nice white to have around (again for less than 5 bucks a bottle)
While we’re there, we’ll usually also pick up;
Tilamook cheddar cheese
the chainti flavored dry salami
olive oil
Tj"S enchilada sauce
Trader Joe’s brand carne asda
Trader Joe’s frozen french cut green beans
TJ’s frozen broccoli florets
A few bottles of the Charles Shaw “three buck Chuck” wines (usually the reds but the Austalian Chardonnay was pretty good if you’re like me and prefer your Chards un-oaked)
I just tried this last night! I made it into a whole meal by sauteing some cut-up chicken thigh meat in a skillet and then adding a bag of this frozen side dish. It got two big thumbs up from me and the mister.
Good:
Frozen margarita pizza
Frozen canneloni with three cheeses
Frozen butter chicken
“De Martini” brand Greek kalamata olive oil
Teluma brand falafel mix
Whole organic chickens
TJ’s brand jarred tapenade
TJ’s brand string cheese sticks
Any and all nuts
Meh:
TJ’s brand boxed soups
Frozen tamales
Frozen burritos
Fresh asparagus (the heads are always mushy and slimy)
Pre-prepared salads (they’re okay, but not great)
Lamb chops
Steaks
Triple ginger snaps. I cannot buy them because I’ll eat the whole tub in a day, no joke. My parents buy them so whenever I go over for dinner I absentmindedly nibble a few handfulls. It’s a running joke.
Good hummus.
Good whole wheat pita (I store it in the fridge and it lasts forever, pop it in the microwave for 10-20 seconds and it’s nice and warm and soft, just like fresh).
Peanut butter. Semisweet chocolate chips.
Shredded wheat. OK, it’s not like this is some astounding taste treat unavailable elsewhere but I like it and they’ve always got a shelf full and it’s cheap.
Sweet potato chips - often part of my post-run snack. Delicious.
They have a house-brand chicken sausage that is really good and does not use a pork casing. Available in several flavors (chicken apple, spicy italian, chicken bell pepper, chicken jalapeno, etc).
For those of you looking for falafel, CostCo carries it now. Something like three pounds for $10, it’s quite good and stores well.
I love most of the things mentioned, but one of my favorite TJ’s product that isn’t food, is their TeaTree Oil Soap. It’s one of the primary reasons that we go. I have oily skin and am sensitive to added perfumes. This soap cleans very well and has a fresh and natural scent.
I also agree about the frozen desserts too. Their Chocolate Lava Cake and Death By Chocolate are simply wonderful.
Totally don’t get the love for Trader Joe’s. One just opened up a five minute walk from me, I went in there one day, and it was–surprise!–a grocery store, such as I’ve seen for the past 56 years. They sold food, at average to high prices, and the few items I bought were absolutely nothing special: a chunk of cheese, some veggies, a little coffee. What’s the big whoop?
Avoid their packaged tri-tip steaks. We tried 2 or 3 of the marinated versions, and all of the meats were kinds of mushy from being over processed, and not tasty enough to put up with the mushiness.
I am trying to follow the guidelines of this discussion, but I am having a real hard time.Let me introduce myself.I am pro gill netter, avid hunter when need be,and real organic gardener in the city. All I have read are supposed people raving about the taste of these trendy products and zero proof that any of them are healthy at all,or G.M.free.This begs the question;is this entire thread an invention of trader joe’s employees afraid of being fired, just like what was recently exposed at Whole Foods? Is this some kind of California, website where people are so stupid from lack of basic nutrition that they are believing what a corporation tells them to think unquestionably. How is it possible for a store to have so many products and not one skeptic has come forth with a statement of dire warnings.I am sorry if I come across as negative, but there are children with cancer who might see this store as a “yummy” way to get better, and I would like to give them the best choice based on diligent research.Science folks,it is what they do in Texas while you are asleep.
Is there something in particular that worries you about Trader Joes products compared to other grocery stores?
I won’t deny that most people would be better off eating less processed food and I am against GMOs, but with the way modern life is most people do spend a lot of time eating prepared food and I don’t see any reason to think TJ is any worse than other grocery stores.
So, if you don’t want to buy processed food good for you, but I like TJ’s products for those times when I lack the time to make my own food.
Also, to everyone who came here looking for more TJ product reviews: I can vouch for the Paneer Masala and the frozen falafel. The cookie butter is absolutely not health food, but it can be tasty too.
