Modern-day Libertarians are just MAGAs who want to smoke weed.
So in other words, Elon Musk.
I don’t know what the Republicans have to worry about. Unless RFK Jr. wins a majority in the Electoral College, which seems unlikely, the election will ultimately go to Trump if RFK Jr makes a strong showing. Either he’ll peel enough votes away from Biden to hand Trump the victory, or he’ll do so well that he actually wins enough Electoral College votes that nobody wins a majority. In that case the election goes to the House, and – get this – the voting is state by state. One state, one vote, regardless of population.
Looks like four more years of Trump coming. Just like in 2016, all of the left wing third party voters, or those who insist that the lesser of two evils is still evil, are going to stick their fingers in their ears and go “LA LA LA LA LA” when we try to point out the practical effects of how they plan to vote, or not vote. And this is after we’ve already seen what Trump already did the first time around.
Trump would probably think — I’m on track to win, so I hope RFK Jr. doesn’t shake up the race.
Now, those who think Biden is on track to win would logically see RFK Jr. as risking that.
This makes sense to me:
Whose presidential bid does RFK Jr. hurt more — Joe Biden’s or Donald Trump’s?
P.S. I’m a big believer in averaged polling, but there just aren’t enough three or four way polls to go by that yet.
From my perspective, given how much more moderate the Republicans were in '92, it’s remarkable that there was enough daylight between them and the DLC Democrats for a centrist third candidate to squeeze in.
I’m not convinced that a third party candidate poses the same degree of risk to both Biden and Trump. If the publisher of a dictionary wanted to illustrate the definition of “fiercely loyal”, they could use a picture of the G.O.P. elephant logo. In other words, Republicans are less likely to stray from the fold. Perhaps the fact that Democrats and progressives tend to skew younger is also a factor here. In my earliest years of voting, in California. I used to vote Peace And Freedom (basically same as the Green Party). I would vote for them now, if we had the kind of system in which a party can pick up five percent of the vote and participate in the government. But as things are under our winner-take-all setup, that would mean throwing my vote away.
It’s interesting how Tanner Stening writes:
But aren’t the battleground states really the only ones that matter, thanks to the Electoral College?
Technically yes, the problem is that there is no way to know with 100% certainty exactly which states are battlegrounds until the election. You might think that a state is solid blue or red until the voters decide otherwise on election day.
It takes less than 5 seconds of listening to him to know exactly who’s voters he is pulling, Biden is not the one that should be worried.
First of all, let’s not pretend he’s going to win one single electoral vote.
RJK Jr is a whack-a-doodle, and would probably drain more votes from the other whack-a-doodle than from the sane candidate.
Hey, I saw Predator, Jesse was in that with Carl Weathers. So RFK is friends of a friend of a black man. Or is at least friends with someone who acted with a black man, same difference.
Will he wear his feathered boa?
There wasn’t. Perot wasn’t a centrist. Like most third party candidates, he was a “Vote for me because I’m not either of the other guys”. Actual positions, if any, were irrelevant.
I take exception to that. I have no desire for weed and not a maga.
But I am signing out of being a Libertarian.
RFK Jr. had a Super Bowl commercial. Did anyone watch it? Will it help him “gain steam”? Not a great use of money IMHO.
The ad didn’t say anything at all. It was just the name “Kennedy” over and over with nostalgic 60s looking cartoon graphics.
It was devoid of any real message.
I can’t see it really helping his campaign out, though that was clearly the intent (or perhaps drawing support away from Biden). While there are some Dems - mostly ones who’d be drawing Social Security at this point - who might be taken in with the idea of another Kennedy in power, most generally aren’t the type to be nostalgic for the 60s generally or taken by the retro styling used in the ad
It would have been a better ad had it featured Aubrey Plaza riding a dragon.
That applies to every ad.
The Kennedy family were not pleased.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. apologized to his family members after a super PAC backing his independent bid for the White House aired a commercial during the Super Bowl on Sunday night.
“I’m so sorry if the Super Bowl advertisement caused anyone in my family pain. The ad was created and aired by the American Values Super PAC without any involvement or approval from my campaign. FEC rules prohibit Super PACs from consulting with me or my staff. I love you all. God bless you,” Kennedy wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
…
Despite Kennedy’s apology and his claim that his campaign was not involved, the ad remained pinned to the top of his X profile as of Monday morning.Bobby Shriver, Kennedy’s cousin, had criticized the ad in a post Sunday on X.
At first I thought it was a comedic ad for a product, then when I his picture pop up I thought, “Someone created a SNL type fake ad to attack Kennedy!”.
