RHPS Fans Only!!

Yay Rocky!

I’ve seen it about two dozen times. Without a doubt the rowdiest yellers I’ve seen are at the Rialto Theater in Raleigh, NC – but the ksankiest preshow was at DragonCon, in which skirt-wearing virgins were squatting over the faces of their male virgin counterparts, bending forward, and eating Twinkies out of the males’ pants. That’ll pop 'em!

The song, as sung at the Rialto, was rowdier:

Michael Rennie was ill
The Day the Earth Stood Still
But he told us HOW TO FUCK where we stand ON OUR FEET
And Flash Gordon was there
In YELLOW (silver) underwear
Claude Rains was The Invisible Man I SAW HIM
Then something went wrong
THEY GOT FUCKED BY (For Fay Wray and) King Kong
They got caught in a SEXUAL(celluloid jam 69!
Then at a deadly pace
It SAT ON WHERE? JANET’S FACE (Came From Outer Space)
And this is how the message ran…

Science fiction (ooh ooh ooh) BUNNY FOO-FOO (double feature)
Doctor X SEX SEX SEX SEX will build a creature
See androids fighting AND FUCKING AND SUCKING WHO? Brad and Janet
Anne Francis stars in DEEP THROAT ONE, JUST FOR FUN (Forbidden Planet)
Wo oh oh oh oh oh
At the late night WHAT KIND OF FEATURE?, double feature, WHAT KIND OF SHOW? PICK YOUR NOSE (picture show)
I knew Leo G. Carroll
Was FUCKING (over) a barrel
When Tarantula CRAWLED UP HIS TITS – LICK IT, LIPS! (took to the hills)
And I really got hot
When I saw Janette’S TWAT (Scott)
Fight a PENIS (Triffid) that spits SEMEN (poison) and kills
Dana Andrews said prunes
Gave him the SHITS runes
And passing them used EX-LAX (lots of) skills
But When Worlds Collide CLAP
Said George Pal to his bride
I’m gonna give you some SEXUAL(terrible) thrills
Like A SEXRAY!
Science fiction (ooh ooh ooh) double feature
Doctor X (ooh ooh ooh) will build a creature
See androids fighting AND FUCKING, AND SUCKING WHO? RICHARD O’BRIEN (Brad and Janet)
Anne Francis stars in DEEP THROAT TWO: THIS TIME SHE SWALLOWS (Forbidden Planet)
Wo oh oh oh oh oh
At the late night, double feature, picture show
I wanna go I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO COME!- Oh oh oh oh
To the late night, double feature, picture show

To the late night, double feature, picture show WHERE DO ALL THE VIRGINS SIT??
In the back row
FUCK THE BACK ROW!
FUCK THE FRONT ROW!
NO! FUCK THE THIRD ROW!

  • Oh oh oh oh
To the late night, double feature, picture show

I’ve always found it enjoyable when two or three different groups get together. Everyone has their own lines, so at some parts, you just hear this roar as everyone screams out something different.

I have been going to Rocky for about 3 years now. That is since I was 15. I was on cast at Carefree Players (West Palm Beach) almost immediately after I started going. I did lips, trans, and Janet (once). Right now I am learning Rocky for the Orlando cast. Yay Rich Weirdos!

Ok I need a RHPS show in NJ I can go to HELP! <the man with no neck>

OK, I managed to find my old cast’s website. Here it is!! Any picture that says “Leah” is me, and Phil is my husband. Oh how I loved Rocky!!
I’ve got to dig around, but I’m sure I’ve got more photos somewhere…maybe I’ll find 'em this weekend. Just Google rocky horror picture show new jersey and you’ll get pletnty of hits.

God, I went to RHPS when I was in high school in the late 70s. My very first time was Halloween 1977 at the now-closed Vogue Theatre in Louisville, KY. I credit RHPS with helping me come to terms with being gay; the crowd at RHPS shows helped me realize I wasn’t the only one. I was never in the cast, although I did sleep with the local Rocky (Hey, I’m a muscle queen).

Let’s see, I started attending RHPS midnight shows at the Biograph Theater in Chicago in 1980. When the Biograph closed (“Whatever happened to the good times at the Biograph Fay Wray?”) we headed to the 400 Theater, thence to the Prospect (in Mt. Prospect) and the Mundelein Theater. After that, I pretty much lost interest, in part because the Audience Partici(say it!)pation album came out, and our theater was invaded by 14 year old girls who had memorzied the NY cast’s AP - we dubbed them the Sal Piro Lesbian Choir.

I was a Passion Player from 1980 to 198…5? Maybe 86. I played every role at least once, but was most frequently Columbia. I did get to play Janet “live and onstage” at an anniversary show in Milwaukee at the Oriental Theater - that was a lot of fun. (“Say! Does anyone know how to Madison?” “No, but we can Milwaukee like nobody’s business!”) I stopped counting my viewings at 300, which is about when my mother threatened to have me committed

Seen it scores of times in the theater and at home.

I’ve even listened to the commentary on the DVD with Patricia Quinn and Richard O’Brien(which is ranked up there with every John Waters commentary and Carrie Fisher’s commentary from Postards From The Edge).

Qadgop The Mercotan was a total virgin when it came to RHPS. He was a virgin that had never even heard of sex. Ever since he saw it in college, he has supported it and has shown it to both of his daughters. I am the younger daughter, and I must say, I am very grateful to Dad for showing it to me, because it is one hell of a cool movie. The movie introduced me to some of my best friends, and we always watch anime or RHPS when we get together. I am very sorry, Averie537, to hear that your theater closed down. It was a departure of a wonderful part of your life, I’m sure, and I sympathize. I’m sorry to hear such sad news.

Gobear, I have to agree with you, RHPS really helped my bisexual and homosexual friends cope with their differences. LifeOnWry, I’m fourteen, and I’m sorry that a bunch of girls my age had to spoil your fun for you. A lot of girls my age are downright annoying, so I can indeed sympathize with you. I’m proud to say that my friends and I (who are actually mostly male) make a point of watching and being true and loyal to RHPS as much as possible. I apologize to those of you who find it annoying that the younger generation messes up RHPS. I will try to rid the world of those who disgrace RHPS.

Good lord! My 14 year old is sharing her RHPS stories! I am so old!!

Anyway, I saw it first in October 1977, when it was part of a double feature along with “Phantom of the Paradise”. I’d seen “phantom” before and liked it, so dragged some friends along to see the double feature. None of us had seen RHPS, nor had even heard of it. The phenomenon was quite new then (at least in our area) and we did not see or suspect anything at all out of the ordinary, until the lights went down and some people started chanting “lips, lips, lips…”

We were blown away! Talk about the perfect way to see it! Completely unaware!!! We were more than RHPS virgins. We were RHPS virgins that didn’t even know of the existence of the phenomenon.

Well, I’ve seen it a few times since then. And corrupted my two daughters, apparently.

It’s nice to know that the next generation will carry on the grand traditions of Dr. Frank N. Furter.
