I remember reading somewhere online that Trevor Horn from the Buggles (“Video Killed the Radio Star”) was the voice of Rocky in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Is this true?
Not that I’ve ever heard. Rocky didn’t have a voice, he just grunted a lot. Peter Hinwood is the name of the actor who played Rocky.
The answer is still “no.” Peter Hinwood did the singing for Rocky, too. And then he disappeared from the screen and became an art dealer (or a bookstore owner or something like that) in England.
ChrisCTP, you’re talking about the movie. How about stage versions?
Arnold:
Rocky Horror was played by Raynor Bourton (Original London Cast)and Kim Milford (Original Roxy Cast, New York Cast).
When you refer to the show as the Rocky Horror Picture Show, then you are talking about the movie. The original stage production is known as the Rocky Horror Show.
I’m pretty sure this isn’t true. Rochard O’Brien has said that Peter Hinwood couldn’t act or sing at all, so he cut out all of Rocky’s lines from the movie and got someone else to sing for him.
Since I’ve tried to connect a link here before and it never works, (if you’re really interested in this) go to http://www.cosmosfactory.org then click on rumors under RHPS. The second question is whether or not David Bowie sang for Rocky. That is said to be false, and it says that Trevor Horn sang for Rocky. That isn’t where I saw it originally. Is it the same Trevor Horn as the Buggles guy?
ChrisCTP, I yield to your RH expertise.
GuanoLad, point taken.
TYG: Could you please point me toward wherever you read that bit from Richard O’Brien? I’ve never ever heard anything about another person doing the singing or “speaking” for Rocky in place of Peter Hinwood. I could be wrong, (it certainly wouldn’t be the first time) but after ten years, this is the first I’ve heard about it.
Arnold: It ain’t expertise, sweetie…it’s simply that I still have a whole buncha RHPS stuff lying around from when I was tiny, cute, and Columbia.

<<PETER HINWOOD
Born May 17, 19??
Peter Hinwood was a professional model when he was chosen the blond muscle hunk Rocky Horror (a Creation) for the movie.
He had little or no acting experience and does not even sing his own songs in the film. After ROCKY HORROR, Peter shied away from any publicity on the film and has since retired from show business. The story is that he is now a successful antique dealer.>>
Crrrrrazy. This is the first time I’ve heard anything like that. However, a Whois lookup reveals that rockyhorror.com is owned by Lou Adler. That’s pretty final.
Well…my curiosity is piqued. I’ll see if I can find out anymore.
I had heard that he had his voice dubbed, too. And as any RHPS fan knows, he sure as hell can’t dance. Watch him during the floorshow when they’re doing the Rocketts kicks.
The first link you posted, TYG, says that Jim “Don’t Squeeze The” Sharman has confirmed it was Trevor Horn. If it’s about Rocky, and Jim Sharman says it, it’s believable.
However, I’ve just gone through about three million pages devoted to Trevor Horn and the Buggles, and not a single one of them mentions that he was the singing voice for Rocky Horror, so I’m going to assume for now that it isn’t the same guy.
