Richard Blaine vs. Westley of the Princess Bride

My money’s on Rick. He’s blow Westley away with a .45 in his trench coat pocket before Westley could draw his sword, left handed or not.

Westley. The thing about Princess Bride is that each of the characters were the very best at something. Buttercup at being beautiful, Humperdink at hunting, Inigo at swordfighting, Fezzik at strength, Vizzini at thinking, and Westley at surviving. That’s how he won. You can’t really beat someone who’s special skill is surviving.

Westley beat Inigo at sword fighting and Vizzini at thinking, how were they the best at those?

First, while amusing the ploy with Vizzini was kind of cheating.

Secondly, he was Westley. His superiority puts him above the others, so it didn’t count. The point of the story is that each of them represented the best which made the story more of an epic. More a story of super-humans than a common one. Keep in mind of course that I’m mainly referencing the book here.

My money’s on Rick, unless he and Buttercup had a thing while Westley was off doing his pirate games. If they did, then Westley wins everything and Rick makes friends with the six fingered guy who somehow isn’t that bad of a fella.

Dang, I didn’t think of that…

Rick would win at first. But once Billy Crystal brought Westley back to life, he’d run Rick through the heart when he was least expecting it.
