The only information I’m seeing right now is “Law enforcement sources say Richard took a fall last night, which may be connected to his passing.”
Eccentric fitness icon Richard Simmons dies at 76
In March, Simmons announced he was diagnosed with skin cancer after finding a bump under his right eye. As of Saturday, there was no word as to whether that contributed to his reported death.
There’s already a thread in MPSIMS. Do you want this one combined with that one?
Sure. I only searched Café Society since he was a celebrity.
It should be in Cafe. Richard was on tv constantly in the 80’s. He was a popular guest on the Network Morning shows. IIRC Rosie and Ellen’s shows used him too.
He seemed to have a very successful life. A lot of his identity and celebrity was based on his fitness routines. That became much harder as he got older and the injuries piled up. There were people today that exercised to his Sweaten to the Oldies tapes. They’re very good aerobic exercises and fairly low impact. Good for middle-aged bodies that can’t take the pounding of a intermediate Aerobic Studio class.
He did inspire and help a lot of people to live healthier and happier lives.
RIP
He was great in a 1982 CHiPs episode, in which Ponch attends one of his exercise classes.
There was also this Simpsons moment, where instead of releasing the hounds, Mr. Burns releases the robotic Richard Simmons to scare Homer off his property.
Watch the David Letterman episode where he takes Richard to get new clothing at the surplus store. It is hilarious!
