Yes, I know there is already a thread for it, I’ve been posting in it.
But that’s a current episode watching and talk thread and I’m starting out from the beginning and then also ranking them every 2-3 episodes I watch. Kinda jarring to have a guy constantly talking about past episodes in your topic when you’re all trying to read about and find posts about the CURRENT EPISODE.

So I made this one on the suggestion of someone in that thread.

I’ll be watching two more episodes today and intergrating them into the ranking list.

Okay, new episode added into the previous ranking. I was going to wait to do this until I watched two (or even three) more episodes, but this most recent one watched was SO good, I cannot wait.

BEST EPISODE, IMO

—Close RickCounters of the Rick Kind: Well, @iiandyiiii was right, this was a REALLY GREAT episode. First really great one (after finding the first one I thought of as “great” just before this one, too (see rick and morty watch along thread for thoughts on that one)).
THIS ONE HAD GREAT EVERYTHING, great storytelling, writing, humor, intelligence…no rambling improv or forced humor and memes. Twist ending, mind fucks, a moment that actually made me laugh out loud (another first for this show). Great characterzation too. Just all round a fantastic episode.
Funny, that the PILOT is now, with the addition of so many episodes on this growing list, is one of the weakest ones this season, IMO.
I will always be adding new things to this list, though…I’ve done this before (with other shows I’ve watched for the first time) for others, made ranking lists that keep going along like this…and over time, a few more things will be added, for example, heading modifiers of “great/good/so so/poor/etc” after about 20-30 episodes are on the list and also, I will separate seasons so that each one has their own ranking list and having one MASTER ranking list with all/every seasons episodes on it. It’ll probably start to get to be a fairly long post by the time the show is fully watched, but I’ve had good feedback from doing it this way before with other shows, so…ya’ll will see what I mean.
Until then, I’ll watch another show later today. Last one of season one, actually.

—Ricksy Business: Not bad at all…slightly than better episode, which would put it in the park of “pretty good”. I liked it a lot, had a lot of laughs, had a lot of wit…
one thing I’m not so hot about is the constant “I love you, I hate you” Morty’s parents seem to go through at least once every episode. It’s like, okay, I GET that a bad marriage can be polarizing and lead to moments like that, but it is literally almost every episode THEY HATE EACH OTHER, just to make up at the end. “I can’t stand you and want a divorce” to “oh honey, love you, smootch smootch kiss kiss”. Can it YA KNOW, LAST for at least one or two episodes? EIther that or just split up and get divorced already.
But it had very little marking on the episode as a whole, the episode was a fun one. Of course, Rick had to end it with some shouting at the viewer “yeah, my new catchphrase… that’s season one”…but to be fair, it all did come after he said “roll the credits” so I considered the episode done with right then and there (I did catch the stinger at the end, though, as I always do).
Also, this show seems to love putting characters in danger of rape, that’s another character who almost was. It wasn’t as jarring or sudden as the time before, plus I knew “it was a possible thing” now, so maybe it desensitized me a bit to it.
Overall, solid episode that was not super great, but it wasn’t bad at all.
Looking very much to starting season 2.
Any episodes in season two do ya’ll predict or hope I rank high? Any, for any of you, that is akin to “GASP, IDLE…YOU DIDN’T LIKE [EPISODE]??? WE CANNOT BE FRIENDS ANYMORE”? I bet @iiandyiiii has a few like that, haha.

BEST EPISODE OF ALL TIME, IMO

—A Rickle in Time: WOW, …this one takes the cake. THIS one will be very hard to beat. Another great episode. And to think this is the second part of a two parter. The first part was ranked much lower on this list (although still a very good episode, I think)…BUT THIS ONE was like… wow. I laughed more in this one than any one so far. Such clever writing. Smart writing too, with the many timelines thing. See, now THESE are stories that I go nuts about, the kind I love the most. Ones dealing with time travel, time loops, timelines, other worlds, I’ll always enjoy episode that feature messin with TIME and SPACE and the MANY WORLDS THEORY. This show is picking up speed. Two new number ones in only about three episodes, not bad.
But I have a feeling numbers one and two here are now gonna hold these spots for awhile, because these will be very difficult to dethrone.

—Mortynight Run: Not the best episode. Still good. Fairly good, I’d say, rather than a solid good. Wasn’t bad at all, it just felt…convoluted. Cluttered. Complex. Maybe a few other words that begin with the letter “C”. I’ll have to consult a dictionary. But anyways, it was okay and good-ish, I’ll say that. Not as funny or well written, though, and just an odd feeling of being a bit more disorganized than other episodes. I don’t know, maybe it’s because it was all spent away from the family and Earth (well, save for Jerry) and in a strange, alien world, but I’ve seen ALL ALIEN WORLDS in a few episodes of this so far and ranked them higher. Something was just sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiightly off about this one, I can’t put my finger on it, but I didn’t like it as much as others. Not the worst ranked one either, though, I mean, it was a little funny and still passable… just not up to the levels of extreme enjoyableness I’ve experienced before.

—Auto Erotic Assimilation: Very, very good episode, I enjoyed it a lot. Really, there wasn’t even anything wrong with it other than the fact that I simply didn’t find it as funny or mindbendy or clever as the ones above it, that’s all…but it did most everything perfectly. Yet again, though, the two parents are constantly fighting and hating each other and yet, stay together. I’m sure next episode they’ll be constantly fighting and hating each other and yet still staying together too… too bad we can’t check in on that alternative version of them that the RICK AND MORTY left when they messed up and turned everyone into alien creatures in Rick Potion Number 9. THAT couple of them seemed to get that spark back and hold it. Anyways, super good episode which is in the top half of ALL I’ve seen… well, so far. Subject to change position as more get added, though.

—Total Rickall: Near great episode, very well done. Funny, intelligent. Huge mind fuck. All of the good qualities are present. While not about anything time related itself, it still deals with false memories, thus it has flashbacks and is sort of backdoor-ly related to time, as a whole. I think any storylines based on memories or false memories or what not is going to still go under the GENERAL “Time” category. I really liked this one.
So far there are two season two episodes in the top three, not too bad. Again, nothing bad or wrong here, not even a little… it all comes down to “I was simply more amused and interested in” the two that beat this one on the list (so far)… any episode that is about TIME TRAVEL, TIME LOOPS, MULTIPLE TIME LINES, MULTIPLE WORLDS, CLONES, FALSE MEMORIES, etc… is going to have an adventage with me on this list. It can make a so so story gain a few extra points. Like, even if an episode is total crap, I might not make it last “simply because it dealt with a time loop”. This was a very solid episode all through and through, though…it was about one of my favorite things AND it was done well.

—Get Schifty: Ugh, Get Schifty makes Meeseeks and Destroy suddenly look like an AMAZING episode by comparison. This one sucked, I won’t pull any punches. I have no problem saying if an episode was great or good if it was great…but if one sucked, well, I won’t shy away from saying it if that’s my true opinion.
This whole episode felt like off the rails, improvisational FILLER. I mean, EVERY episode goes off the rails to a certain degree and some have even gone off the rails a huge amount and stayed off it for the rest of the episode, but this one went off the rails in a BAD way. I simply could not believe that some characters would act the way they acted… especially Summer, who always seemed smarter than her parents. Nonsensical storylines and happenings. Ice T is ice and then water, the president is almost killed and okay with others being killed… I mean, yes, it’s a cartoon. Fiction. No logic exists in it…they’ve done illogical things more so BEFORE this…
…but this took the cake. It wasn’t even overly funny or intelligent, just a MISHMOSH of bad jokes thrown together. This was a total “we need another episode to make it a full ten so let’s just put anything in in any way we can” episode.
It was…hmm…I hesitate to use the word bad, but it was definitely NOT GOOD. It was just one step up from being a bad, horrible episode, Let’s say severely below average. It did have some funny jokes and parts, but man, they really dropped the ball, it felt like.
Also, the song GET SCHWIFTY? Ugh, were they hoping that that would actually become sort of popular? DID it become sort of popular among fans of the show? I sure hope not, but I worry that it’s a yes.
Anyways, if ANY episode was the WEAKEST AND WORST so far, it was this one.
Hopefully this isn’t any SDMBers favorite episode, because I just kinda sorta steamrolled all over it.

—Big Trouble in Little Sanchez: By comparison, this one reeked. Not overly good. It had its moments and did make a good joke or two, but not a huge fan. Felt like mostly filler. I liked the “B” story that involved Beth and Jerry better than the main storyline. That main half was not overly amusing. Weaker episode when compared with most, but not the worst.

This one was my favorite of all time, not for the main plot but for the “Keep Summer Safe” sequence, which made me laugh harder than anything in a good long while.

Look Whose Purging Now: Sometimes simple is better. I like the Inception type stories or the fake universes ones or “there are 100 Ricks all loose on Earth” ones…but sometimes simple is also great. This one, based on The Purge, is just about that and nothing much else, yet it was really good. Even the B plot line with Jerry and Summer, simple talking, yet interesting, clever, and even funny. Sometimes I feel like this show could use more of these type of episodes.
Above average episode, I liked it a lot.
