But that’s what the topic of this thread is about. If that’s what you want, why not just close the thread?
No, the topic of this thread is Rick Jay’s moderating in the boxing thread. Little Nemo hijacked the hell out of this thread, and Rick Jay has yet to respond to the actual topic…
iMHO, my vote is no… ![]()
You’re right. I posted in haste.
To the OP:
If he said “Boxing sucks!” Or something like that, then, yes, that threadshitting. But I don’t see how agreeing with something the OP said in his OP could be threadshitting.
He didn’t make fun of boxing, he just said it’s a dying sport. Which, when compared to the cult of Football, could be understood.
Looking back on the thread, I feel my note was justified. Sorry, but the argument that the OP mentioned the sentiment doesn’t wash. The OP clearly mentions the “boxing is dying” sentiment as being the opinion of other people and makes the wish very clear that the discussion should be about boxing. It was not a “mistake” to open with that line.
My mod note was, in my opinion, perfectly reasonable. etv78’s post was not appropriate but did not deserve a formal warning. The note was LATE, but it’s just a reminder of the rules and I see no reason why that’s not better late than never.
As to the hijacking of this bizarrely long thread, well, it’s not my forum to moderate.
Obviously opinions may and do differ.
I apologize for taking this thread off the original topic. I’ll drop the discussion. But I do want to respond to one post:
Apparently I am seeing an issue that other people are not. Obviously, I like to think that the issue I’m seeing is real and those of you who don’t see it are missing the point. But objective self-reflection forces me to acknowledge the possibility the majority is right and I’m the one who’s wrong here.
However, I do want to repeat that I believe there is a real issue here and I am sincere in what I wrote. I was not merely posting to cause an argument. However, as I said above, I see no point in continuing the argument.
