Rick Perry Needs to Shut Up

Yep:
“You don’t like the Goths?”
“No! Not with the persecution we have to put up with!”
“Persecution?” Padway raised his eyebrows.
“Religious persecution. We won’t stand for it forever.”
“I thought the Goths let everybody worship as they pleased.”
“That’s just it! We Orthodox are forced to stand around and watch Arians and Monophysites and Nestorians and Jews going about their business unmolested as if they owned the country. If that isn’t persecution, I’d like to know what is!”
Yeah, but… you moved to Florida.

Oh, snap!

I moved to: California, Oregon, Kansas, Kentucky, Ohio, and South Dakota while looking for Florida; here the politicians are just out and out corrupt without being particularly hypocritical or religious. Even so, none of the states in which I’ve lived have come close to Texas for shear damned bullshit.

I’m a fairly liberal Democrat in Texas. And I have to say, I love it when Perry opens his mouth to shove his boots further down his throat. I gotta find my giggles wherever I can.

What are you talking about? Both Protestants AND Catholics can set up nativity displays.

Religious intolerance indeed.

Sheesh.

Parodies and 'santorum’ing of the video are fast becoming an Internet meme, but my favorite commentary is this simple still picture.

Maybe he will humiliate himself sufficiently (and throw away enough resources) that we can finally get the schmuck out of state office as well. It’s a little dream I have.

It looks like knowyourmeme.com has whipped up an entry on this commercial already. People seem to be having fun making image macros depicting Perry saying unpopular things.

To be fair, they do that “comment pending approval” bullshit on that video. I noticed when I submitted my comment about how that video of all videos on YouTube has a comments section without a flame war. I figured that all the trolls were too busy posting pro-Hitler comments to flame each other, but I didn’t know they that the comments are being screened.

I guess I really should take back this pitting… he has given us so much comedy and warmth with his ad.

Yes, but whenever they put the Ten Commandments up on the courthouse lawn, it’s always the Protestant version.

My favorite Perry ad parody.

It’s a nice dream, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen, unless he is caught in a wide stance in a public men’s room.

Only a matter of time.

I just sat through my daughter’s 7th/8th grade band Winter Concert in which several Christmas selections were played. In the auditorium of public school in South Carolina. I can assure Mr. Perry that Christmas is alive and well in public school.

Either he’s out of touch or he’s a liar. Either way…

Where is this school? I’ll call in an airstrike.

I reported the video to YouTube as promoting hate speech.

Until I saw the new adverts that came out over the past few days, I was not really counting Rick Perry out of it. I figured a comeback was possible. Now we can stick a fork in him. The best he can hope for now is the Veep Seat followed by a life of celebrity golf.

I suspect the GOP learned from Sarah Palin. Perry won’t get the Veep seat. While Biden has foot in mouth disease, it isn’t so bad as to detract too much from Obama. You don’t want to make the presidential race about “what stupid thing the VP candidate did or said.”

Its straight to celebrity golf. If he gets really lucky, there is Dancing With the Stars.

I held onto hope that a national campaign would mean Perry out of Texas for good.

Unfortunately, a decade of virtually unopposed power in a deeply conservative state made him arrogant and taught him the (incorrect) lesson that he could win elections without appealing to moderates at all.

And now, Texas has to continue dealing with the buffoon. Thanks Perry. You couldn’t screw yourself over without also screwing Texas.
