Riddle, can anyone get it?

I have an animal in my house, it does all the following things.

Swims, Fetches & Chirps.

if you can tell which type of animal this is, you win.

You must name the type of animal & the breed.

e.g Dog, German Sheperd

heres a hint: it isnt a german sheperd.

So you’re the new guy she’s shackin up with eh? Hope you have better luck with her than I did.

No, no, no, I kid. I don’t really even have an ex.

Type of animal: Man
Breed: Tryin’ to please his woman!
Am I right??

no it is a real animal & a common animal but rare breed.

Hmm, I recall seeing a nature special that featured a wild dog breed in either Africa or Australia that “whistled” instead of howled. Maybe that’s it. I can’t recall the actual breed name though.

I have 2 Ragdoll cats that chirp, love water, and play fetch.

A New Guinea Singing Dog?

Is it a Maine Coon? My ex-wife had a part Maine Coon cat that would fetch and chirped rather than meow. Her’s didn’t swim that I know of, but I’ve heard that some Maine Coons do.

Animal: Cat
Type: Slyvester
Hobbies: Chasing a scrawny yellow bird, and avoiding umbrellas swung by little old ladies.
Turn offs: Bulldogs
Turn ons: Anything from the Acme catalog (wait, no, that’s a coyote)

Bill Clinton has asked me to point out it all depends on how you define the word “fetch.”

The “African barkless dog” is the basenji. According to this source, they “yodel”:

I’ll bet they look damn silly in liederhosen, though.

Not knowing if they swim or fetch, but knowing that those are common enough canine traits, I’ll go ahead and guess:

Dog, basenji.

Oh, and the breed of cat known for swimming is the Turkish Van, which unlike most other cat breeds, usually likes water. Whether it chirps or fetches, I cannot say.

If it’s a cheeky riddle, I’d guess: birddog

If it’s a serious question, I’d say a Bottlenose Dolphin. They fetch, they swim, and they chirp.

Other animals that chirp: Frogs, Grasshoppers (and other insects), and, of course, birds.

By “common animal” do you mean it’s a common animal to keep as a pet?

My dad had one of those hugely wrinkled Chinese dogs, a Shar Pei. In addition to the standard barks and growls, he would chirp and purr. When asleep, he snored and whistled. He could swim, though rather badly. He could fetch, but he slobbered so copiously that you didn’t want to take what he brought you. He had a nice disposition, but I don’t recommend this breed to anyone.

It is a turkish van.

Their chirping happens when someone they like calls them, they will reply with a chirp.

it sounds like a slightly high pitched meow.

and they love playing fetch and swimming.

Go yabob!!!

Here’s some info on Turkish Vans, including some interesting pictures of the little critters in water:

P.S. I wrote my dolphin post without realizing RAWisSYDNEY said “in my house”. eeek!

While researching the answer to this riddle, I came across this info:

Cats that chirp:

  • American Curl
  • Maine Coon
  • Chantilly (not a recognized breed)
  • Japanese Bobtail
  • Devon Rex
  • (and now …) Turkish Van

Most cats CAN swim, but dislike getting wet.
Cats that like to swim:

  • Manx
  • Turkish Van
  • Turkish Angora (hard to believe)

Wild Cats that chirp and swim:

  • Mountain Lions, and panthers in general

The best cat swimmer of all:

  • The Fishing Cat (a rare Southeast Asian animal)

These lists are not exhaustive.
