riddle me this

Biotop - did he land on “Go to Jail”?

Which is heavier - a pound of feathers or a pound of gold? (Not the same answer as feathers/gravel).

Half answer - gold is weighed in troy ounces, I think, as opposed to regular avoidupois (sp?). I think the Troy pound has fewer ounces, but not sure ounce size is the same. Maybe feathers is heavier.

You got it Jenericho.

Ok.

Okay, everyone who posted a riddle and didn’t give an answer, I’m dying to find out. Please help me!

A flea – yes!

A coffin – no! Counterfeit money.

A peacock.

Oops! In amongst all my posts I forgot to submit new riddles:

  1. As I walked over London Bridge
    I met my sister Jenny.
I broke her neck and drank her blood
    And left her standing empty.

  2. What takes longer to finish the faster you go?

  3. What do you call those little white things that live in your head and bite? (Easy, but a personal favorite of mine.)

Comment on answer to previous riddle:
If you don’t understand why the answer is “a peacock”, let me give you a Clue: it’s significant that Biotop was in the Kitchen with a Pipe:wink:

  1. Teeth?

New one

Even if you’ve never seen me,
You may have heard how I see.
Even if you’ve never touched me,
You may have handled kin of me.
Even though I don’t have wings,
I can fly,
Like a butterfly.
Other creatures fear me,
My might, my bite.
If only they could see me
Swiftly stalking,
burning bright.

What am I ?

  1. A bottle of Gin

Another new one:
I will provide a resting place
Provided you provide for me.
Check your mouths to find my fee
Or wait another century.

I spin around a little one,
Last in line, not much fun.
I’m borne of darkness, born of black.
If you sail with me you won’t come back.

My cloak is black, my eyes a blaze
My beard is white as snow.
If you visit my beside the sticks you
know where you will go.

Who am I?

P.S. Apologies for the appalling rhyme scheme, Tolkein I aint!

…but have I missed the third -GRY word? I didn’t think so. Please, someone tell me! This is keeping me up at night and I can’t think of it!

There is no third GRY word. The riddle as I heard it went like this:

Only very few words in the English Language end in -GRY. Hungry is one, angry is another. There is another very common word. What is the third word. If you have listened carefully I have already told you I have already said it.

Note the lack of a question mark in the bolded sentence. It’s a statement. WHAT is the third word. It’s a sneaky punctuation trick, nothing more.

[afterthought]
However, the above explanation only works if you see the riddle written down (which was its intended form). If you don’t then there is no way to arrive at the above answer. There are loads of ancient -GRY words which aren’t in everydy use but you can use if someone tells you the riddle verbally. OGRY is one meaning one tenth of something. If some smartass tells you the riddle without writing it down, just say ogry, that’ll shut him up

thank you so much!

Correct (well done)! (Troy ounces are about 10% heavier that avoirdupois ounces, but there are only 12 troy ounces to the troy pound… so a pound of gold is lighter than a pound of feathers, but an ounce of gold is heavier than an ounce of feathers).

Just in case anyone was wondering, (some hope :)) the correct response to the question What answer should not be given to this question is The wrong answer. Ah, I miss the days of Metamagical Themas in Scientific American…

1 - I know the answer to this is Gin - I just never really understood why.
2 - I HAVE NO IDEA AND IT’S DRIVING ME INSANE! I thought it might be something like “the process of stopping”, but it’s just not right. Can someone please provide the right answer?

Charon, I presume. Still thinking about your other one.

Yes, gin and teeth are correct. As for the other riddle, as yet unsolved, why don’t you turn it over in your mind some more?

Charon is right!

For your second riddle, this is probably wrong but tossing a pancake would work. If you flip it up faster it will be longer before it hits the pan again.

You’re on the right track. Here’s another hint – if you don’t solve it soon, Jenericho will be mad enough to spit.

  1. What takes longer to finish the faster you go?

To stop sweating.
