The search function has stopped working.
I’m trying to do a search, and everytime I get this message:
Actually, it alternates between 88 seconds, and 87 seconds: twice it said to try again in 88 seconds, and twice it said to try again in 87 seconds.
The last time, I waited 10 minutes by the clock between searches and still got this message.
hmmm - I tried searching for posts by a particular poster, by clicking on the poster’s profile and then the “find all posts by …” function - that worked.
It’s the Advanced Search function that gives me the 88 second message.

That has been happening to me. But the Board including the Search function has been performing admirably today. I’m wondering whether a little meth was dropped into the hamsters’ water.
We couldn’t find any hamster hookers, so we had to just give them the hamster blow.
88 doesn’t HAVE to mean the hamsters are Neo-Nazis. They could be asking for a piano (88 keys). If their Chinese hamsters, then 88 is a number signifying good luck or fortune (as in, Good luck getting THAT search accomplished!) and in amateur radio it signifies “hugs and kisses”. Or they could be Dale Earnhardt fans.
If not, I for once welcome our new Neo-Nazi hamster overlords!
When I looked at your thread, it was immediately below the thread HOWTO: Search the SDMB using Google.
Read the thread but the quick and dirty answer is if you want to search the dope for, say, “neo-nazi 88”, use Google to search for neo-nazi 88 site:boards.straightdope.com.
The thread shows how to search by forum and by user and good stuff like that. I can’t remember the last time I used the dope’s search function and I don’t miss it.
