whatever
The OP is talking about a children’s story (duh? context anyone?) but I don’t know what the hell you are talking about with the “fucking up the screen” shit. How is it fucked up? There isn’t even a horizontal scrollbar!

Uh, there is a horizontal scroll bar in my world, and I am frankly not enjoying it.
Loved the book as a kid, though.

Opal- the entire forum was pushed to the left. I could not see the number of posts or the time posted, etc. I was at work on a small monitor, I use the time posted stats to quickly(read discreetly) pop to an active thread. It’s ok now that I’m home.
Then Holley held Miss Spider’s hand…

oops make that right, doh.
I always thought Rikki Tikki Tavi was a story by Rudyard Kipling about a mongoose. The story about someone falling in a well I remember as a song (Brothers Four)and the name was (and sorry if this messes up your screens)
EddieKoochaKachaKammaToastaMeeraToasta known as SammaKammaWacky Brown
For whatever that’s worth.
I remeber Rikitikitemboetcetcetcetcetcetcetc!
In fact, just the other day I was asking the Chinese guys in the lab here if they’d ever heard the story (no). Small world, huh? That such a random thing would crop up for three people in such a small time frame, I mean.
Opal must have a big-screen monitor or something…I have the scrool bar (at home and work) , and I have to scroll side to side to read # of posts, when last posted, all that…if you had inserted a space halfway through that word, this all could have been avoided.
Flypside…at least you didnt fucking poop in my bathtub.
I have a 17 inch monitor, but I keep the browser window at about 60% of the width of the screen…no scrolling problems here.

I think mine is 13(?) anyhoo…I can see the # of posts at home, but my fonts are set big at work, so that probably accounts for the diff…but I still have to scroll over to see the time of the last post.
(secretly coveting Opal’s monitor)
I remember! The thread title made me giggle.
And it’s scrolling off of my screen too.

I remember the brothers as Rikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Cheri Beri Buchi Pip Peri Pembo and Chang. Chang fell in the well first and Rikki etc told their mother and he got fished out. The next day, Rikki etc fell into the well. Chang ran to tell their mother and, being all out of breath, kept messing up the name and Mother kept interrupting Chang to tell him to pronoune his brother’s name correctly.
I remember this one…It took too long to say his name when he fell in the well so he drowned, right?
Oh! I was just thinking about this the other day. I was in the play when I was younger, and ran across the pictures my mom took. Another girl and I fought over who’d get to play the younger brother, since that way, we’d have a lot more lines. I lost out and had to fall in the stupid well, while she got the cool part… Bitch.
I’m over it though. Really.

For heaven’s sake, it’s a children’s story! Of course Rikkitikkietc.etc. doesn’t drown! Read it to a kid named Sylvester Lucifer von Pandemonium and he wouldn’t sleep for a month.
Mom and Chang and the Old Man with the Ladder have to do a real number on him to get all the water out, though.
Uke
Ike,
I thought that was the Disneyesque spin.
I mean, please! They didn’t even KNOW CPR or mouth-to-mouth way back then…

I remember it fondly. It was one of my favorite books. It’s actually Tiki Tiki Tembo No Si Rembo Cherri Berri Ruchi Pip Perri Pembo (more on WHY I know that below). Rikki Tiki Tavi is a Kipling story about a mongoose. According to the story, it means “The most wonderful and esteemed child in all the world” or some such in Chinese. He has a younger brother named Chang. Chang falls into the well, Tiki runs to his mom, tells her Chang has fallen into the well, the old man with the latter resues him, everyone is happy. A few days later Tiki falls into the well, and Chang runs to his mom, but he is SO out of breath, by the time he gets Tiki’s whole name out, and the old man can get to him, Tiki is near death. But he lives, and they all realise how silly long names are, and THAT is why Chinese names are short.
My godfather is Chinese, and because I adored him (and still do, he rocks hardcore…) I always associated the book with him, I named my siamese cat after it, and she KNOWS she’s in trouble when she hears the whole name. (otherwise, Tiki works jsut fine…)Plus, when people ask what her name is, I do the whole schpiel and they just stand there shocked. It’s grand.

I remember a version of the story where the younger brother’s name is “John”. But then, I remember a lot of things…
