I’m going to get the new Harry Potter book! Mr. Rilch is going to drop me off about 9pm, and I hope to get my copy between midnight and 1am; they’re staying open, as are many bookstores. If anyone sees a news clip of the Glendale Borders and notices a redhead with a purple shirt, carrying a witch doll, that’s me! Heck, maybe I’ll see one of you there!
Who is Harry Potter?
I have heard of Colonel Potter, but somehow I doubt that they are the same person.
Harry Potter is a character in a very popular series of children’s books (the main character, actually). At one time, all of the first three Harry Potter books were on the best sellers list at the same time. Tonight at midnight, the fourth book comes out. There’s been a lot of secrecy about it.
Also, Amazon.com has gotten the most pre-orders ever (over 319,000) for this book. I’ve never actually read it, but my little cousin is a fan.
New book is 700+ pages. From what I hear, 25 bucks.
Of course, we preordered on Amazon like last year :), so we get free shipping.
Someone dies in this episode. Rumors are that it’s a Weasley, but nobody will know until they read the book.
Noooooo!!! I just read the first one (thought it was probably all hype–turns out it’s not!) and I can’t bear the thought of something happening to one of the Weasley’s!!! If it turns out to be true–DO NOT TELL ME!!
No body better spoil this for me.
My sister picked up the book for me a couple of hours ago and is mailing it to me in the morning. It’ll take a week to get here.
I read the first Harry Potter book the week it was published – i.e. before it was on the best seller list and a craze.
Rilchiam, I’ll be looking for you on the news! If they interview you on-camera, don’t forget to mention the SDMB.
Will they be giving you free coffee drinks while you wait in line? How will you keep from falling asleep otherwise?
alright gosh darnit!! Is this a KIDS book or not??? Should I a 28 year old male buy this to read??? Will I get ridiculed if I do? I thought it was a kids book… please tell me.
Well, I’m back. There were no TV crews—they went to the Barnes & Noble in my neighborhood! Argh! But I had to place my order with Borders, because I didn’t know what my financial situation would be today, and I had to use my gift certificate.
There was a magic show beforehand, but it sucked. I did meet some interesting people, though. I brought Griselda, my witch doll, and she “talked” to the children; they thought she was great. The line moved fast, and I got my copy by 12:30. I’ve already steamed into chapter 3. I will not give away a thing, except to say that this looks to be well worth the wait, and for those who aren’t already Potterphiles, well worth the hype.
I heard it was Dumbledore or Hagrid who die. I am praying like hell that it isn’t Hagrid because the 7 yo in this house will not cope if it is. I tried to do a deal with him that he wait a decade or two until he could cope but no way. Of course we have another week before it comes on sale here so I am planning to do a spoiler and do the preparatory grief counselling in advance if necessary ;).
If it is one of the Weasley twins he won’t give a monkey’s
behind
Primaflora very interested in spoilers
Whammo, you would do well to read it, but you must begin with Book 1. It’s not strictly for kids, and you shouldn’t be ridiculed, but it’s a series, and you absolutely have to start from the beginning.
Arnold, they gave us some lame snackies; coffee was regular price. I’m naturally a night owl, so it wasn’t a problem for me. Some of the children said this was the first time they’d been out and about (a wise child knows how to stay up past midnight without parents’ knowledge) except for traveling. I wonder how late some of them stayed up afterwards.
