Ring Two Questions (Spoilers)

I went to see The Ring Two yesterday. It seemed to be an appropriate choice for Easter since it deals with something who is part human, part supernatural and comes back from the dead. Overall, the movie was okay, but nothing to get excited about. I did have some questions.
[ul][li]The deer. What the heck was the deal with the deer? There were the deer at the market, the deer that attacked the car, and the antlers in the basement of the farmhouse. There seemed to be some connection between Samara and deer, but there wasn’t a hint as to what that connection was. I’m still not sure whether the deer attacked the car because Samara wanted them to or because they sensed Samara in Aidan. In other words, were that for or against Samara? Also, after all the damage they did, why did the deer just let Rachel drive away?[/li][li]Samara and water. If Samara has such an aversion to water, why does she seem to always work with water? It also sounded like her mother, Evelyn, believed that she was impregnated by an otherworldly, watery being, in which case, you’d think Samara would be at home in water.[/li][li]The well cover. At the end when Rachel’s in the well, she goes on about how the well is always open and Samara has a way out. But wasn’t it Rachel who uncovered the well in the first movie? Samara had no trouble getting out then.[/ul][/li]Finally, just an observation: Rachel’s an idiot. If I had gone through everything she and Aidan did in the first movie, the first thing I would have gotten rid of was my television. Also, if my kid had a temperature of 93°, I wouldn’t bother calling a doctor – right to the hospital. Knowing Samara’s around, I wouldn’t leave my kid alone in the bathtub, as I went back (alone, at night) to the house we’d just fled.

My best guess, which is not satisfying in a storyline sort of way, is that a lot of people found the sequence with the freaked-out horse to be effective in The Ring and the director wanted a similar sort of “animal goes inexplicably nuts” type of sequence. You’re right, there is no explanation other than the hint that a lot of deer met their end near or because of Samara.

Apparently in Vengeful Ghost 101, they determine that Samara should kill people with a method that recalls her own ‘death’ by drowning in the well. I didn’t get the impression that Evelyn was impregnated by a watery being, though.

Well, you remember in The Ring how, at the end, Rachel says, "I released her (or freed her or whatever she says) and Aiden says, "Why did you do that? You weren’t supposed to help her…and it’s at that point that you see Samara actually come out of the TV and kill the ex…the idea being that Samara was limited in some way to working only through the videotape before, and now she’s free to pursue other interests…like trying to possess Aiden.

I only saw this a few weeks ago, and it’s sad that I can’t remember, but I thought there was a hint that whatever impregnated Samara’s mother might not be human. I can’t recall any specifics right now. In the original Ringu, I believe Sadako was fathered by a water demon.

I took the deer to be a basic “animals sense evil” thing, but with Samara it seemed more personal, based on the pile of antlers in the cellar of the house.
