Now the Artist of Another World hangs up his easel. His later career was as a painter where he’d mix in the media traces of moondust and pieces of space gear, and texture it with the boot soles and rock-sampling tools.
And there are now left but four of the twelve.
The episode told largely from Bean’s point of view in From the Earth to the Moon was one of the best of the series.
Bean, like all of the moonwalkers, was an interesting guy. But he was unique among them as an artist. He was the only person in history able to paint the moon from memory. It’s a big loss.
I can’t hear Bean’s name without picturing Dave Foley.
