Apollo 12 secrets

Did you know several Playboy models hitched a ride to the moon?

Well, images of the models hitched a ride. LOL

The cuff list prank is by far the best. Conrad and Bean got quite a surprise on the moon. They were smart enough not to comment on the radio.

Nice reminder that the astronauts were professionals but they also knew how to have fun.

A photo of the cuff list is shown in the business insider link. The Playmates were Miss September and Miss October 1967. Their names were Angela Dorian and Reagan Wilson. This was when Playboy only featured Topless shots. Nothing explicit.

I’m missing something. From your link:

While the first two were on the surface, Gordon would have been orbiting the moon in the Command Module. The way it’s written makes it sound like Conrad and Bean were just outside the door when it happened. And this particular picture didn’t actually make it all the way to the moon.

Apparently a little ceramic tile inscribed with scribbles by famous artists was also stashed on board - it includes Andy Warhol’s stylised signature - stylised, that is, as a line drawing of a cock and balls.

Tang, the Omega Speedmaster Professional, 60s PopArt, the old-school girl-next-door Playmates. Say what you will, Earth Culture was well represented in these adventures

I think your right. The cuff lists (with a couple photos) were worn on the moon.

The photo in the ship’s locker orbited the moon.

IIRC, the girly pix incident made it into the Apollo 12 episode of Tom Hanks’ excellent miniseries, From the Earth to the Moon.

Dave Foley of The Kids in the Hall played Alan Bean.

It did. That series (and the Apollo 12 episode in particular) is really excellent.

Didn’t someone on a previous mission (Mercury series maybe?) get in trouble for taking along a sandwich for a snack? Weight limits calculated down to probably a gram and he brings lunch

Edit: ah I think this is it: Gemini 3 and the first (contraband) corned beef sandwich in space 50 years ago | collectSPACE

I make a special effort to ditch my daily-wear Apple Watch for the Omega Speedmaster Professional once a week when I go to church. That watch is too beautiful to leave tucked away in a drawer. I haven’t sipped Tang in a long while though.
