I just heard, on CNN, that Bea Arthur has died at the age of 86. Can’t find a link anywhere.
Here’s a link.
Loved her as Maude…“God will get you for that, Walter.”
Hope Ma is waiting for her Pussycat in Heaven with a good Sicily story.
R.I.P. Bea.
*Maude *really stands up a well written, timely, relevant show. It’s surprisingly hard hitting on the issues it covers–it pulls no punches on abortion or single motherhood or drugs–and is pretty dang funny at the same time. Worth seeking out if you haven’t seen it.
R.I.P. Ms Arthur
Ugh! This bums me out. I grew up watching The Golden Girls and still love it, and I discovered Maude when it was on Nick @ Nite back in the 90’s or something and liked that, too. Bea was hilarious in both roles.
I was just watching Golden Girls last night. It’s on Nick and Night and I often watch it while going to sleep. It’s a wonderful show, and Bea Arthur was great in it.
i enjoyed her work, and loved her voice.
I’m so sorry to hear this…the Golden Girls are down to two now.
I was privileged to see her on Broadway in the '60s . . . in the original cast of “Fiddler on the Roof” and especially in “Mame.”
Bea Arthur was fabulous in everything I ever saw her in, from Maude on All in the Family as well as her own show to Golden Girls. I didn’t really like GG much, but the few times I watched it, Bea was always terrific.
Since everyone will be talking about Maude and Dorothy, I’m gonna give a shout out to her hilarious line readings as a guest star in an entirely different show – Futurama, where she played a robot disguising herself as a computer:
She was awesome.
I love Bea, she’s long been a favorite of mine. Maude was one of my must watch shows and I still love it today, but Arthur’s Broadway career was aces too.
I’m not as sad as I was when Natasha Richardson died, because Bea had a long, very full life. She’ll still be missed.
My inner Golden Girl is no more.
RIP Bea Arthur.
Bea’s actually the oldest Golden Girl, right? I know Estelle was younger than her. If I were a Golden Girl I’d be a combination of Dorothy and Blanche.
He’ll be missed.
Gah. In my youth, I wanted to dress like Maude in those FAB 1970’s dusters.
She will be missed, indeed.
Do you know something I don’t know? :dubious:
The only good thing to come out of the Star Wars Holiday Special is no more
This made me very sad. She will be greatly missed.
She was a truly handsome woman with a great sense of comedic timing. She made being older sexy, alone with Betty and Rue.
RIP, Bea. You did tremendous work.
