Mother of Whitney Houston, of course, but she was a powerhouse singer in her own right. Have a listen to Aretha’s “Ain’t No Way” for her background vocals hitting impossible ranges.
I was running the outside stage at a Jazz and Blues festival in the 90s in Red Bank, NJ.
She was our top performer that year and she was great.
