A great grandmaster of classical music has passed away today. RIP.
I particularly like his string quartets and the third symphony, which I rank amongst the 10 greatest of all time.

I am only familiar with his work in a passing way but appreciate his reputation.
If you have any specific recommendations, I would appreciate a point…any particular version of his Third?
This one for me.
Thank you.
For me too.
Dawn Upshaw was on a higher plane of consciousness for this recording… R.I.P. Henryk - you wrote music that touched the world.
I heard the 3rd once and thought it was so beautifully stunning I’ve never forgotten it. Every time it happens to come on on the radio I stop everything and just sit and listen to the end.
One of the most beautiful and arresting pieces you’ll ever hear. Anyone reading this who’s never heard it, get a cop - listen and be moved.
I have a compilation of 20th-century music that includes the 2nd movement, but I’ve never heard the other 2 parts. I suppose I can look them up on Youtube and see if I like them.
Agreed.
I first became aware of his music when the 3rd symphony was used in in the movie Fearless. It’s a fantastic film but the music was so beautiful and moving it was truly stunning.
I just heard about his death now, through this thread. Sad to hear :(.
Just listened to big chunk. Dawn Upshaw sings like an elf not a human, glorious, utterly beautiful, just utterly beautiful.
A sad loss. We sang his *Amen *a couple of months ago. A stunning composition.
