RIP, DJ. You were great.
Oh, man. I opened this thread to find who else was named Dennis Johnson.
RIP, DJ.
Crap. I did the same exact thing!
He just dropped dead. At 52. Damn!
Very sad. I was 16 years old in 1986 and have great memories of seeing DJ play at the old Garden that year. Loved those freckles.
I’m a Lakers fan, but even I have to say, “How sad…”
I hated the Celtics team back then, but you got to respect that lineup of Bird, McHale, Parish, Walton and Johnson from the mid-80’s.
RIP DJ. Say hi to Red.
The memories of the 80’s Celtics are still strong, especially Bird stealing the ball and DJ laying it in against Detroit.
RIP, DJ.
Damn, man. He was a member of the last group of sportsmen I idolized as a kid.
Too soon.
The 80s Celtics were the last time I was really interested in the NBA.
Yeah, I bet any casual NBA fan can rattle off that starting five of DJ, Ainge, Bird, Parrish, McHale more easily than any other Championship starting 5 in history.
I grew up in Maine, and that team was one of the first sports teams I was really, really into (along with the Pats from back then).
DJ was great. Sports Guy at ESPN.com has a big tribute to him today. He posted a link to the you tube video of the famous Bird steal. However, I happened to find another link from that page, though, of Jordan putting up 49 on the Celtics. He fucking pw3nd DJ in that video. pw3nd before pw3nd was a word.
I was thinking the same thing.
