RIP Dewey, the library cat

My brother sent me this, and I thought it was a very sweet story. Dewey, we wish you well on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

(There is a website devoted to other [library cats](http:// www.ironfrog.com/catsmap.html), BTW.)

Cat who became mascot of Iowa library after being found in book drop dies in librarian’s arms

SPENCER, Iowa (AP) – The final chapter is closed on Dewey Readmore Books.

The 19-year-old cat, who became a mascot for the city’s library after being found in a book drop, died Wednesday in the arms of librarian Vicki Myron.

The temperature was minus 10 when Myron and another librarian found Dewey under a pile of books in the library’s book drop when they came to work one morning in January 1988.

Aww, that’s too bad. I hope they find another cat to replace him. I’m sure the place won’t feel the same to most customers without a kitty there.

Dewey’s picture.

Is it just me, or does Dewey have a “The bitch is just going to kill me.” look on his face or what?

I was thinking the look said “I’m a cat. I don’t care.”

God bless you, Dewey.

And Tuckerfan, you’re just bad today.

That’s my cat’s name! Now I’m sad. :frowning:

Zsofia - You have a cat named “Dewey Readmore Books”?

StG

Zsofia, I thought about you when I read the story. (What’s the status of dog/cat diplomacy in the Z household these days, BTW?)

We maintain a demilitarized zone still. However, Haplo really enjoys his training, even if it’s, you know, totally useless on the cat issue to date. So that’s something. Dewey loves sneaking into the dog’s room when the dog is outside and sleeping on his bed. Haplo loves eating Dewey’s shit out of his litter box. I suppose we have reached detente.

Dewey is not so snobbish as to require middle and last names.

Oh, but he has them anyway. You know what T.S. Eliot said about the naming of cats.
