Funny. I never made the connection between Van’s song and Fats. I never really thought about it.
Don’t ask me when I made the connection, it was long after I’ve first known the song, I believe I’ve read it in a book or magazine, but it made instant sense. Van very often pays tribute to his, well, inspirational sources. He used those inspirations better than anybody.
That’s a great song, but I’m not hearing the connection. Especially rhythmically.
Doesn’t mean much in Van Morrison’s world, he also can pay tribute to William Blake in a blues song. But it’s canon and almost established fact that “Domino” indeed means Fats.Here’s wiki on it.
