RIP, favorite (computer) mouse.

For the past several years I’ve been using this mouse. From the day I started using it I loved it. It’s so comfortable, all the buttons are right where I need them etc etc etc. After about a year or two I started having a problem. The left mouse button, when clicked would sometimes register as a double click. Odder still is that sometimes holding down the button, the computer would seem to think that at some point I lifted the button and re-clicked it. It wasn’t a huge deal at first, I could deal with most of the consequences of this. But as it got worse it was harder to deal with. Firefox has what seems to be a unique feature in that if you highlight something you can then grab it with the mouse and drag it around and it’ll paste it somewhere else. It’s a feature I’ve never used on purpose and I didn’t know until my mouse started doing it on it’s own (see the above sentence on releasing and reclicking while holding down the button). Again, I loved this mouse so I just dealt with it. The kicker really came at the beginning of a month when I had to reconcile my business checkbooks. About a thousand transactions, each one has to be clicked one at a time as you match it up with the bank statement. Double clicking on something when you don’t realize you double clicked on it adds considerable time (since it’ll uncheck it without you realizing).

I did some research on Google and found that it’s a common problem in this mouse with the microswitch. I called Logitech and they sent out a new one.

After about a year the same thing happened to the new one. Called Logitech again and they sent out a third one. I’ve had this one for only a month or so and it’s already giving me the same problems.

Today I’m going to run up to Bestbuy and pick up this one. It appears to be an updated version of the one I have, maybe the updated the microswitches as well. I figure I only paid for the mouse once and I’m on the third one. I’ll give them another shot. If this one does the same thing I’ll start looking into a different brand.

I really hope this one does well. Other then this problem I’ve never been this happy with a mouse. I think it’s a combonation of where the buttons are, the fact that it weighs almost nothing and the little curved part that holds your thumb. Keeping your thumb off the desk makes it appear to move even smoother.

Thanks pal for giving me mouse envy. Now I have to have something like you are planning to purchase.

While I know I am probably touching off a religious war with this post, I must say that I have always preferred a trackball to a mouse.
This is the one that Logitech recently revived (which is my favorite): http://forums.logitech.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/613i7104C5B797A1E046/image-size/medium?v=mpbl-1&px=-1

Model# T-BC21

So I used the new one for a little while and it was making my hand kind of sore. Also I was having a technical issue with it. I went to the Logitech forums to see if I could resolve the technical issue and noticed a lot of other people saying it was also making their hand sore as well. This mouse is just a tad taller then the one it replaced and it’s rather uncomfortable. I’ll see if I get used to it in a day or two, otherwise back to the store it goes. (Also, I don’t really like where all the buttons are located, I’ve already had to disable two buttons because I keep bumping them).

I use a mouse, my wife uses a trackball. Our home is peaceful. Bloodshed is not necessary.

Oh I had one of those, it was a premium mouse, and I did enjoy it. But my games of choice are click-heavy, and the switch tends to go, long before the mouse rollers get worn out. So I buy only cheap mice these days. I treat them as disposable. But yeah, I won’t go back to a corded mouse. It doesn’t really get in the way, all the mice at work have cords, but it’s just deliciously high tech. And the 4-year olds on my street keep asking, “Is it broken?” because it has no cord.

That’s like saying Ford revived the Model T  Corded, non-optical. Ack.

My wife uses a trackball and I would give vital body parts if Logitech would upgrade their wireless Trackball to their current mini-dongle technology, or even BT.

The ONLY wireless trackball with anything remotely current tech I found was some KIRFy Chinese knockoff model that I got off Ebay.

P.S. sorry for the hijack :smack:
