RIP Freddie Francis

Oscar-winning Cinematographer Freddie Francis (Glory) died on March 17. He was 89. A frequent collaborator with Jack Clayton (Sons & Lovers, The Innocents) and David Lynch (The Elephant Man, The Straight Story), he began his career as a camera operator for Powell & Pressburger and John Huston and later had a fairly successful career as a director of B-level horror movies in the 60s. He won 2 Oscars and 5 awards (including Lifetime Achievement) from the British Society of Cinematographers.

RIP.

I appreciate cinematography, and I loved what he did with Lynch’s films. I have not yet seen the others you mentioned.

That man had a great career. He also did the cinematogrpahy on The French Lieutenant’s Woman and Dune. Well played Sir.
