RIP Glenn Frey

missed the edit time out.

Bernie Leadon and Don wrote Witchy Woman. Bernie had joined the group while they were backing Linda. But all 4 guys finished the vocals for the song in her living room.

I wish that Linda and the Eagles would have recorded a few songs together. Would have been an awesome collaboration.

To be honest, I always heard it as “police gas…”

I’ll get me hat.

Linda’s memories of the Eagles is in this article.

Sure wished I had seen that before I pulled the book up on my kindle and typed in the quote that I posted earlier. Anyway the article has the full story as told by Ronstadt.

She knew the Eagles would be a big hit.

Nice to see Eagles fans un-ironically come out of the woodwork. The Big Lebowski made it too cool to hate the Eagles for too long a time.

With everyone using Eagles lyrics for epitaphs, I’ll throw in a solo:

The Heat is Off. RIP, Glenn

We will never forget him til somebody new comes along.

Had to listen to a lot of their more country stuff like Lyin’ Eyes every morning growing up because my folks kept the kitchen radio pegged to the local country station. Wasn’t until I got into rock as a teen that I got to hear their other stuff.

Hotel Cali is one of my favorite songs of all time!

Even if I dont know all the words!

My cousin was shocked when I told her the news

Stomach sicknesses are a bad way to go

RIP

This tragic news has really struck a chord with me. (pun intended, probably the opening G Major of Take it Easy)

Growing up in the 70s, my Mom was a huge Linda Ronstadt fan and I was drawn to the backing band and distinctive harmony behind her on her 1972 album.

I was a huge Eagles fan as soon as I heard they were releasing their own album. FTR Glenn always insisted the band name was Eagles, no “The”.

Glenn was a huge influence on me as a musician, guitarist, songwriter, and singer. We have similar voices and I learned to emulate his country twang. To this day, I still belt out his songs at parties, jams and gigs whenever I’m in the mood or I’m looking to fill in with some crowd pleasers.

I’ll admit I wasn’t a huge fan of his 80s solo stuff but enjoyed their reunions and Long Road Out Of Eden.

Another sad day this year… RIP Glenn Frey, he may have checked out but he will never leave…

Man… Lemmy, David Bowie, Glenn Frey… I might need to take a day to mourn… someone check on Ray Davies please.

A little black humor. But I loved the Eagles. 2016 really sucks so far.

There’s a hole in the world tonight.

A heartache tonight, I know.

Frey and Henley co-wrote “Desperado”, which is the first Eagles song I ever remember hearing. Sixth-grade music class with Mrs. Hanna was awesome. (She introduced me to The Beatles, too. She had a ginormous Sgt. Pepper tapestry).

So I’m the only one who vaguely assumed it was some kind of cactus?

Colitas is Spanish for “little tails” and apparently was understood by Frey to be a nickname for a joint. The lyric is saying they were driving along, puffing a J.

I’ve been an Eagles fan from the beginning.

When my parents were in their 90’s, I started playing Youtube music clips on their TV. Dad particularly enjoyed the Eagles, and requested their music often. I’d say their music crossed generations.

Mom? She stuck with opera, Vera Lynn and the Beatles to the very end.

. . . but you can never leave.

The writer who asked Cecil thought it was “colitis,” too.

Am I misremembering, or did the band at one time insist that it was “Eagles” and not “The Eagles”?

No, you’re right. It was Frey who insisted the name of the band was just “Eagles.”

Here’s a brief but informative article on Randy Meisner’s reaction to Frey’s death. I’d assumed that since he left the band after clashing with Frey that he and the current lineup were not on good terms, but apparently not since the band paid all of Meisner’s hospital bills when he had to be hospitalized a couple of years ago. Meisner also makes interesting comments on the background of Frey’s health problems, time in the hospital, and medical efforts to deal with his illnesses.

Out of respect for Glenn and the rest of the guys I guess I’ll just refer to the band as “the Eagles” from now on instead of “The Eagles”.
