RIP Lou Reed

RIP Lou. Guess I know what artist is moving to the top of my playlists for the next few days.

Now it’s on the NY Times site:

Yeah, just saw it.

A massive loss to rock music and to us all. A sad day.

So strange. I loved his music as a teenager, but spent the last 2 weeks revisiting him and his work. His death almost seems like a bizarre coincidence to me.

Holy crap, what a bolt out of the blue ( for me - had no idea he recently had a liver transplant ). I’m feeling very mortal all of a sudden :(.

RIP Lou, I can’t think of too many 20th century musicians who were more original or influential in their time.

I said, I want to be a singer like Lou Reed.

 - The Pixies, I've Been Tired.

He ain’t dead. I think. Trying to find confirmation now.

Well, hell. Media Mass is a satire site? I didn’t know that.

Guess he’s dead, after all (found multiple news reports). Sorry about that, folks.

Oh Good! I think.

Hope you’re enjoying an infinite Metal Machine Music remix right now Lou! Sigh, more of my youth lost.

His obit was the first I learned that he’s married to performance artist Laurie Anderson

Damn I’m old. All my people who influenced my tastes and made me a bit of who I am are all going away. David b\Bowie, please stick around all long as possible and Iggy, well he’ll probably outlive us all.

Well, he’s indestructible, just like Keef and Lemmy (I wish they all were).

Phew, so he is really dead now that you have confirmed it

I’m just listening to “Magic and Loss”, and here are some words of consolation from the man himself (the closing lines of the album):

“There’s a bit of magic in everything, and then some loss to even things out”.

RIP, Lou. :frowning:

(His liver transplant was actually in May.)

The first comment I see there is “Just because he’s dead doesn’t mean it isn’t shitty music”.

LOL.

People…

shrugs

Here he is, Lou Reed. This is all you need when it comes to rock & roll ladies and gentlemen.

I never had any Velvet Underground music. I may have heard a song or two of theirs on radio. It’s odd that I’m not that familiar with them, because they were popular when I was really young. I think my older cousins listened to them.

It’s always strange to lose a pop icon from your youth. Makes you realize the years are passing quickly.

I don’t really think “popular” can be used to describe The Velvet Underground. Their influence on music was mainly acknowledged later on.

“I was talking to Lou Reed the other day and he said that the first Velvet Underground record sold 30,000 copies in the first five years. The sales have picked up in the past few years, but I mean, that record was such an important record for so many people. I think everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band!”
Brian Eno, 1982

I saw Lou Reed many times in concert. The last time was the tour for his album New York at the Warner Theater in DC. He was a big part of the soundtrack of my youth.
