RIP Noel Neill

95 years old, a nice long life. RIP Lois.

One of my earliest erotic fantasies, she was surpassed on the show only by Joi “Mrs Superman” Lansing.

RIP, Noel. You were HOT, HOT, HOT!!! :o

The original live-action Lois Lane, she appeared with Kirk Alyn in the movie serials. She and Alyn also appeared in the first Superman movie, starring Christopher Reeve, as young Lois Lane’s parents on the train and she was in Superman Returns as the elderly rich woman who Lex Luthor married. I had no idea that she had settled down in Tucson, where I live.

Wow, we used to watch Superman every week, back in the '50s. I had no idea she was still alive.

Hijack: My mother dated Jerry Siegel, the creator of Superman, when they were classmates in high school. She said he was nerdy and boring.

Wow, I didn’t know she played the old rich woman Kevin Spacey’s Lex married! I knew she (and Alyn) was in the original Chris Reeve one, though the scene is very quick (blink and you’ll miss it). When it was shown on TV in the 80s they added a bunch of extra scenes (most of which were crap) and one of them included a shot on the train after young Lois sees young Clark running super-fast and tells her mom. Neill and Alyn actually had a line of dialog or two…

That’s in Richard Donner’s extended director’s cut. It’s on DVD and well worth watching. Warner Brothers negotiated with Marlon Brando’s estate for the rights to restore all of the deleted scenes of Brando as Jor-El. Brando’s footage was also restored to Donner’s cut of Superman II.

Nice story here by comic book writer Gail Simone.

Lost another Lois. How sad. :frowning:

She was the real Lois to me. The TV show was the best live interpretation of a comic book superhero ever made, maybe be forever since the comics have lost their simplistic nature. Lois replaced Phyllis Coates on the TV show, she is still with us, but she never brought Lois to life for me. There was chemistry between Noel and George Reeves that matched what we saw in the comics, and hearing her speak about him maybe some chemistry off screen as well. Goodnight Noel, thank you for wonderful childhood memories, I hope you and George, and Jack and John and all the others are together again now.

Add me to your lovely and touching summarization.

Obviously, I agree.

Phyllis Coates is still alive, age 89.

Forgive my ignorance, not a comic fan, but what other actors to play her have also passed away?! Margot Kidder is crazy, but she’s still alive, right?

I have to ask also - offhand the only other Lois Lane actresses that come to mind are Teri Hatcher, Erica Durance, Dana Delaney, Amy Adams, Kate Bosworth…all alive,as far as I know.

Phyllis Coates was Lois in a movie (Superman vs the Mole Men IIRC) as well in the first season of the tv show with George Reeves.

If you want to count her, there’s also Joan Alexander, who played Lois on the Superman radio show, and also did the voice for the Fleischer animated cartoons. She passed away in 2009.

I owned the house Noel Neill grew up in. Into her 80s she used to swing by the neighborhood when she was in town - she had stopped before I owned the house. The neighbors said she was a lovely woman.

Joan Alexander died in 2009. She was the voice of Lois in the early 1940’s cartoons.

Joan Alexander’s gone. I remember her and Bud Collyer as her Superman quite well.

She and Collyer also played Superman and Lois in the animated New Adventures of Superman from 1966 to 1970.
